Still working for everyone?

Well I just got an AT&T iPad SIM for my Verizon iPad 3rd generation and managed to figure out how to get that all to work. Now with an activated AT&T SIM I wanted to try putting it in my iPhone 4. Changed the APN Settings by using unlock it.co.nz to AT&T Broadband, popped in the SIM and everything works great.

What I am wondering is if anyone that has been doing this for awhile can tell me if they have been fine without getting the hand slap from AT&T. Recently they have been very stingy about checking IMEI numbers and making sure SIM's are in there right device. Has anyone had any problems?

After comferming that my iPad SIM did work in my iPhone 4, I immediately took it out and placed it back in the iPad so I could avoid the chance of AT&T sending me a warring message OR canceling my service all together. Is this something I need to worry about? Or has everyone been doing just find and everything still works.

Thanks!

1) risk

Methinks it all depends on your usage, baseband and perhaps even iOS.

Since apparently they now throttle unlimited accounts that means they watch heavy users.

Also devices on older basebands and perhaps even older iOS might not be monitored. Sort of like why hackers recently targeted OSX Lion only.

At any rate I have used a prepaid sim in my unlocked JB iPhone plus an iPad sim in it. The APN needs to be changed each time. I swap back and forth to the iPad and a dumb phone. Have been doing this for over a year but am a light user with only one sim per account no risk of using the same account in 2 devices at the same time.

2) multiple cards
Another thread has a post that says they got a second sim and use in a second iPad just fine. They say they are careful no to use them at the same time

3) iPad #
Also as per a post back in this thread - the iPad phone number is not activated so can not be used in an iPhone, at least mine does not work.

4) VIOP & 3G
Need to check your upload speed to ensure you are being understood. Users recommend a least 600-700k.

Thanks!

Ah thanks for the info. I wanted to go with bell as I was reading they have solid coverage for Ottawa and the rest of Canada, as well as more wifi hotspots.

hey, you got any update on what you did with the data-only iphone? which provider, any chalanges you've had to overcome in the process?

new to thread

hello there, I know this is an old thread, but perhaps someone will see this and help with my question. I just got a used, unlocked, ATT iphone 4. I followed the steps indicated in the various posts and videos, downloading the unlockit apn changer on the phone, installing it, then took an activated sim from my ipad which has an active data plan and put it in the iphone. the iphone now shows the att logo and the bars, so it is looking for and finding coverage, but when i try to use the cellular coverage it says "could not activate cellular network". When i go to my att account website it shows the phone as an activated device. Any ideas why it is not working? do i need to do some sort of restore on the phone, or is there some other step i am missing? thanks for any advice..

Did you re-start the phone with the iPad sim installed?

If so then check to see that it really is unlocked at imei.info (register for free then select sim check button).

i thought i remembered earlier in the thread that the phone does not need to be unlocked. i did check the imei at that site and it says the sim is locked, but that doesn't make sense since i took it out of an ipad and it was working fine in the ipad...hmmm...so if i pay the site to unlock it it might work?

If the iPad you removed the SIM from is AT&T also, you shouldn't need to unlock anything. I've done this successfully before. Let me catch up on reading the thread and think about it, it's been about 2+ years since I've done it. I'll reply again shortly.

I've done lots of Jailbreaking and unlocking over the years, and believe me, when I successfully did what your trying to do, I didn't need to unlock anything. The problem is likely in the network settings.

Just to show how ridiculous Apple and USA cellular carriers are with their locked down crap, here are my experiences with a Neuxs 4 and a tablet/data sim from my carrier (wind mobile in canada) ... I just put it in and went to android settings to change my apn and everything worked. No jailbreaking/rooting, no tricks with activation, no sim swapping. Im able to use sms txting too (registered for whatsapp and BBM).
