I've been keeping my eye out for a decent deal on an iPad mini 2 with at least 32GB for myself and my daughter to watch movies in the car on trips. Today I see that Best Buy has the white iPad mini 2 64GB for Verizon on clearance for $397 ($133 Off). I didn't particularly want cellular or need 64GB, but for only $50 more than the Wi-Fi iPad mini 32GB I pulled the trigger.

Cellular is a great thing imo even if you never use it. First off the cellular ones have Gps while the wifi models don't. Data plans are month to month so you can always cancel or t-mobile I know offers data buckets where you pre pay for a set amount of data and once you use it up you don't have data until you buy more. Like you can say buy 5gb and whenever you use it all up you need to buy more or no more cellular data. Plus if you have a data share plan on Verizon or AT&T and on t-mobile you can match your cellphone data up 2 5gb for $10 dollars more. I think the Verizon mini 2 has all the radios so you if you checked if it's unlocked you can get t-mobile free data for life promo which gives you free 200mb of data per month

All iPads are unlocked and the T-Mobile SIM will work fine in the Verizon Mini 2. BestBuy also has the T-Mobile SIM cards that will give you the free 200mb of data for $4.99 which also come with a set of good quality Micro and Full size SIM Adapters.

Cellular support ends up being a great thing to have even if you don't use it a lot. I would never buy an iPad again without it. It's not just for the GPS either. The cell data comes in handy more than you'd think.

Enjoy. ;)

I think all cellular Ipad mini 2's are on 'clearance'. I just bought a 128gb Att ipad mini 2 for $480 before tax!

Correct. I have done just that - although I had to call T-Mobile the first time I popped their SIM into the Verizon iPad to provision the device on their network with the IMEI. After that, I can freely go back and forth by just changing the SIM (and restarting).

The higher capacity mini 2's (64 and 128 GB) were discontinued, so I imagine they are clearing our their inventory. Got my 64 GB Verizon one yesterday and also picked up a T-Mobile SIM to get the free 200MB/month data.

this deal almost makes me want to get an iPad again. What do you have to do to get a free 200mb/month from tmobile? Also could i just go to verizon, since i have an account and ask for a sim for the iPad?

If you plan on using Verizon, the Verizon iPad comes with a Verizon sim pre-installed. All you have to do is activate it on your account. If you want to use T-Mobile, Best Buy sells a T-Mobile SIM kit for $4.99. I purchased one in-store, then just replaced the Verizon SIM with the T-Mobile one. Then it's just a matter of choosing your plan in the cellular data settings on the iPad. Signing up for the free 200 MB per month doesn't require a credit card. I kept the included Verizon SIM just in case I ever wanted to switch. I don't really need cellular data, but the 200 MB is perfect for checking emails on the road. With the heavy discount, added GPS, 200 MB of free data from T-Mobile; getting the Verizon iPad over the Wi-Fi was a no-brainer. The other great thing is because of the cellular data, and added GPS; I'll more likely be able to locate my iPad in case it gets lost.
