I think that this is the worst thing Apple has ever done.

100 extra for Touch ID and gold? Still offering the 2 for sale?

I really don't get this at all.

iPad rankings

1. iPad Air 2
2. iPad "mini 2"
3. used iPad Air 1
4. used iPad "mini 2"
5. iPad mini

Not worth buying any other iPad

Did they not say earlier in the event the mini was one of their best selling iPads ?

I didn't catch that. Historically the charts I've seen it has been just a fraction of the full sized sales. With the 6+ they probably expect that to get worse. Still surprising it didn't get at least an A8 though.

Exactly, even if it didn't get the A8X, it should have gotten the A8 to bring it to the 2014 spec.

Right. I would've been ok with that, I could've justified it. But not with the fact that they just left it in behind in 2013.

Wowzers! Thanks for confirming. What does this mean for performance lag in iOS 8? Hoping they fix it with a software update, as this means the new ones will be laggy out of the box UNLESS it is already fixed with 8.1

They're not laggy because of the hardware, iOS 8 was just a terrible release. But that still won't adress the memory management of the iPad if it only has 1 GB of RAM.

$100 for Touch ID is insane. On the other hand, an iPad mini retina for only $299 is a good deal.

I'm not sure how much of a "good deal" it really is. The mini didn't compare well in price with other products, the only reason it wasn't blown out of the water at the start was that it's an Apple product.

One of the issues not discussed so far is that the rMini wasn't "state of the art" when it was 1st released (close, but not best). Now, the others have even more time to overtake it.

It's sad that the only products I want from Apple are being killed off. I only wanted either an iPT or rMini and both look to be dying off.

Apple should look again at the mobile business market, where the iPad is too large for some and the Mini is just the right size for millions of workers because it can fit places where the iPad is just to cumbersome.

I write business apps for workers that just don't want to carry a larger tablet and the phone (even the 6+) is not large enough and they don't need a phone.

Color me disappointed.

Only good news is the mini 2 is now cheaper although very out dated.

I would have been happier if they did NOTHING to the mini except the price, at least then we wouldn't have to wait another year.

no comment on the iPT :(

On the bright side, 32GB iPad mini 2 in the refurb is only $349 now compared to the $419 it was earlier

Another interesting point, how does a touchid justify a new model number?

Has Apple EVER come out with a NEW MODEL without a chip/memory/thinner/camera or SOMETHING ????

it's an rMini2+ ... Nothing more.

Extreme disappointment here also. For me, the mini iPad form factor was ideal. Also really like my iPod Touch. Both products seem to be on their way to end-of-life as far as Apple is concerned.

The only upside for me (temporarily) is that I have a very nice 32 GB Touch and 64 GB rMini. Believe me, I will treat them both with kid gloves and enjoy using them until they are no longer supported with iOS and apps. After that may need to look at other platforms - probably non Apple. ;>(
