Hey guys, I'm wondering if I should get an ipad mini 4 16gb for $403 total incl tax. i currently own an aging iphone 5 which i've had for 3.5 years, i've already replace the charging port to it last year, then just recently replaced the battery with a new one last week. it's still functioning, and now that the battery was replaced, it's even better now since it lasts me a whole day instead of 2 hours, lol with heavy use of the cell network and data. hoping it survives until the end of the year. i mainly use it to watch youtube, facebook, web browsing, reading a lot of manga. i figure the bigger size would be nicer for reading manga. it's awful reading it on an iphone 5 since i have to read it in landscape mode. i tried my cousin's ipad mini 2 retina, and it was really nice to read in portrait mode.

i'm really tempted to get the ipad mini 4, but at the same time, strongly considering the iphone 6s plus (128 gb) because it's a great combination of an iphone/ipad mini in a 5.5" form factor.

what do you guys think? right now I'm overseas, and won't be back home until the end of the year.
i can get an iphone 6s plus 128gb for $1089 here, a bit expensive, but it's not as bad since it cost about $1027 total back in california.

I have both a mini and 6s plus. If I could only have one it would be the 6s+ because it has the best compromise of the two. It's screen is big enough to easily read, and it's small enough to fit in (most) pockets.

Thanks, the only reason why I would go for an ipad mini 4 at this point is the price of $403, and the fact that my iphone 5 is still functioning like a beast (even though the camera and picture quality isn't as great.) I have some time, so I'll think about it some more.

you can get that same Ipad mini 4 for $299 at bestbuy right now and that 6S plus for much less money

I have the 6S plus and whilst I agree with what has already been said, keep in mind that its HUGE in comparison to a 4-inch device.
This depends on your daily routines obviously, but it's not the most pocket friendly device if you decide to go for a jog, to the gym or any other physical activity where you might want to bring along your phone.
I'm considering a downgrade for this very reason, at the same time I'm on the fence if I'll be able to part from the size, it's great for day-to-day web-browsing, social media et cetera :)

If I were you I'd go check it out in a store. Also, whilst 5.5 inches is big, it's still no where near the size of the mini.

thanks, i'll provide an update to this topic sometime in the next week. the best buy deal is amazing, sucks that I'm not in the USA at the moment until the end of the year coz i'd pounce on that deal. another option is getting the ipad mini 4, then and the iphone SE to get the best of both things for much cheaper price if i were to get a full size 6s+.

like i said, i'll update this topic when I do decide to buy one next week.

The best of luck!
Considering the same setup as you (Mini + SE) but I'm still wavering :)

I have an iPhone 6S Plus and I don't use my iPad mini quite that often anymore. If you want the best of both worlds (phone and tablet), go with the iPhone 6S Plus. I'm sure you won't regret.

I disagree that the 6s Plus is a good compromise. Even though 5.5" to 7.9" doesn't seem like a big difference on paper, it's a huge difference when you're actually using the two devices. If you read a lot of manga, you'll enjoy it so much more on an iPad mini 4. Remember that the aspect ratio of the iPad mini 4 is 4:3, which is closer to what an actual book is. This also has a huge impact.

If you're looking for 'all in one' solution on the go, the 6s Plus is your answer, but it brick size can be a problem for some. Personally i prefer smaller phone with iPad Mini\MBP combo, each device got it own use.

I have the 6+. It's no where near as capable as my iPad mini in most things.

just wanted to update, I ended up buying the mini 4 64 gab here in Malaysia, it cost me $33 more than what I would have paid with taxes at Best Buy with their $100 off sale. Not bad. The only downside is that there is no warranty even though it's brand new since I bought it overseas. Decided to not go with apple care, it was about $70 here, maybe should have since it will cover the iPad when I get back to the USA as well.

Now the reason why I didn't go with the 6s plus is because it was $1143 dollars here with with the 128 gb version. Also because I'm looking forward to what the iPhone 7 offers. But most importantly is the iPhone SE. I managed to snag an iPad and I can snag an iPhone SE later on for the price of 1 iPhone 6s/plus. This was the main factor. I think the 6s plus is fantastic, but I'm happy with the iPad mini and my future SE combo

Not sure about iPads, but as long as you having receipt from legit Apple store, you're covered one year globally, at least with mbp. I got mine in NY, after couple of month the track pad got ****'d while i was in Europe, went into authorize Apple store (with my receipt) and they fix it for free...
