iPad Mini 4 to the 2018 iPad, Months Later?

For those who made the switch from an iPad Mini 4 to the 2018 iPad, what are your thoughts months later?

I am finding it a difficult proposition to make a switch to the 2018 iPad. Mainly because of trade offs: laminated display (nicer to look at mainly), same RAM for a little bit more pricey upgrade for a faster processor, larger display, and more longevity.

I have had my Mini 4 since 2016. The processor is back from 2014 too w/ the 6/6+. I don't think this little guy has much time in terms of support since Apple won't be probably sticking with it.

The 2018 iPad seems like a nice premise to consider, but I am not sure if it would just be extra $ spent on redundancy?

When the 2018 iPad was announced I sold my Mini 4 and bought one. I am very happy with my decision.

It was mostly wanting a bigger display, actually, but the improved performance and longevity did help with the choice.

$250 isn’t a bad price for the latest entry level iPad, but having the Mini 4 makes me a bit more hesitant. Do you miss the laminated display at all?

No. That was actually my biggest concern when I decided to make the purchase, but I stopped really giving it any thought within a few days. The difference is noticeable, but not a big deal in my opinion.

I can’t really comment on that. I’ve never used my iPad outdoors, which is where I think it would make the most difference.

If your Mini 4 is still running fine, then I suggest keep on using it. I have both a Mini 4 and 2018 iPad so I see the differences on a daily basis. I believe that the differences in pixel density and laminated vs. non-laminated are often exaggerated. But if a person is sensitive to those differences and ARE important, then they need to do what makes sense for them.

Having said that, a 9.7" iPad is not a proper replacement for a 7.9" iPad. The Mini 4 is still a very capable tablet especially for its age and size for general purpose uses and when size is important, there's no substitute from a larger or smaller device.
