I want to get the new ipad mini 5 and i'm okay with the Charcoal Gray smart cover but i'm at a loss why there's no back cover too. I always protect both front and back. Can anyone suggest what i can get for the back please? From the tech specs it appears both mini 4 (which i have) and the mini 5 are the same size.

Are the camera placements the same? If so I’m going to order a mini 4 case and use it.

When the latest Pro's were released smart covers and keyboards were the only thing available.

Later they added the smart folio's.

Hopefully they will do the same with the new mini and 10.5 iPad Air.

The smart folio's were available at launch, I got them.

How long do you think it will be before we know about camera placement? Be great if old mini cases fit - aside from the obvious mic issue.

I bought 3-4 case trying to cover the front and back of my 10.5 when it came out, never found one that was a good as Apple's. Was so glad when I got my 11" that Apple had the smart folio!

I have a feeling there will be none for the mini 5.

Seems like the mini 5 has larger volume buttons which might be an issue for some mini 4 cases. Shame.

Hopefully some cases for them start showing up.

There'll be a ton of 3rd part cases for the back. Apple used to sell one as well for the mini but it looks like not anymore. They're going with just the smartcover this time around.

It looks like the Mini 4 Smart Cover will be compatible, and I have that, so for now I have bought a cheap Mini 4 transparent silicone back cover that is Smart Cover compatible. I am hoping its flexible enough to allow for the larger volume buttons (I don't care about the Mic). I do already have the iPad Mini 4 Apple Silicone Smart case (back) but thats not very flexible so i'm hoping the clear one will be a better fit.

I have been looking on Amazon and some third party case manufacturers are already labelling Mini 4 covers as Mini 5 compatible so new mini 5 owners will have to be careful for a while at least picking a case.

I don’t have the official case for the mini 4 but a third party silicon back. I think it was a few dollars. Hopefully it will fit well enough until something better comes out. I don’t know if there is any concrete info on button, mic placements. Maybe the chinese case makers were caught off guard this time. They usually get an idea from parts floating around beforehand.

There was an article showing a new iPad mini back protector on MR’s front page a week or so ago.
