My iPad Mini 5 has been making a strange ding sound at random times. It’s made it a couple of time when plugging in to charge before the regular charge chime. Also I’ve noticed it a couple of times prior to playing a video even when the sound level is on 0.

Here's link to a video of it happening when I plugged it in:

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Sounds like a notification.

It sure does, but seems to be unrelated to notifications being received.

Sounds like a beep just prior to the normal noise to me... After the beep, my iPad sounds like that one... every time plugged in

My iphone makes that noise when I plug it in. If I have it on silent, it vibrates. That's normal if its only happening when you plug it in.

iPads don’t have vibration hardware. In any case the same ding has happened prior to playing videos even though volume level was 0.

I contacted Apple support. They first suggested resetting all settings. That didn’t resolve the issue. They then suggested setting the iPad up as new. That seemed to resolve the issue.

I’d original set up the iPad by restoring the backup from my iPad Pro 10.5”. Something must have got corrupted in the process.

I’ve now restored my most recent iPad Mini backup and will see if the problem returns.

Oh, I'm not the only one!

I've done all of those steps, and the 'ding' returns.

I had a similar problem with my 12.9 inch iPad. It would ding randomly, especially when there was moisture in the air. Eventually I couldn't pair it with the pencil. I took it into an Apple store and asked them to clean out the lightning port for me, and it fixed all that.
