Haha I don’t think the paperlike screen protectors for the mini are even out yet so I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. And of course you could always wait to see how much you’re using the pencil before you decide to buy it. That’s probably what I’ll do.

When I went to the Apple store to pick up my Mini 5, I expressed my dismay about Apple not offering a folio for the Mini 5. The geek told me to hold on a second and she came back with a 3rd party folio for the Mini 4. It fit perfect and the only thing I can notice is the back camera is not quite centered but still works great.
Still would like to have had the Apple folio but this is the best I have seen and works great.

Mini 4 screen protectors work on the Mini 5. I use the iCarez matte protectors.
Sure, but the paperlike screen protectors were specifically made for use with the pencil, so I don’t think they made them for iPad mini until now.
I use iCarez on ALL my iPads. I have three Pros and have used pencils with all of them. The matte finish protectors feel more like paper than the bare screen. I’ve not used the paperlike ones because they are really pricey.
Yeah I’ve used other brands and they definitely help with the feel, but from what I hear paperlike is better. Not sure how it is with screen clarity though. I want to try it out, just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I put matte screen protectors on all of my touchscreen devices. I like how they eliminate fingerprint smudges and glare, and give just a little resistance for the Apple Pencil, Adonit Dash 3, Google Pen, and Lenovo stylus on their respective device. They also allow my finger to slide smoothly over the screen.
Just a few minutes ago I applied an iCarez matte protector on my Mini 4. (Both Mr Shield and iCarez provide plenty of components to ensure a perfect application.) It's going to be a while before I get a Mini 5, so I figured I'd spend more time on my Mini than my 2018 iPad in the lead-up to getting the Mini 5.
It's great to see so many getting the new Mini and enjoying them!

When I find a brand I like, I try to stick with it. I’ve used JOTO and like them but they didn’t make them for the iPads back when I first got one so that’s when I found iCarez. I’ve been satisfied with application method and performance so have stuck with what works through four (and soon to be five) iPads. The price is very reasonable, too.
There's a Folio that's well reviewed on Amazon that was actually made for the new Mini instead of being a mini 4 case repurposed. I saw it in a video review for the 5. Multiple colors available.

I’ve had such good luck with Speck cases. They’re spendy and worth every penny. Smart lock, lightweight,
and provides 15 steps of adjustment when propping the case open for reading.

How much digging around with a rotary tool, sharp blades and files would be required to retrofit a mini 4 case for a 5? Has anyone lived to tell the tale?

From looking at the pictures of that case, it looks like the back is really thick. I would think that the camera cutout would be the most trouble. I know that one person has put a Mini 4 silicone back cover in his Mini 5 and there’s a picture that shows the camera opening not matching the camera location. However, until someone tries taking a photo, there’s no way to know whether the mismatch camera opening is just an annoyance (that some people will not abide) or whether the case actually interferes with camera. If I had a Mini 5, I’d test it, but I don’t have one yet.
The microphone opening is another problem. I don’t use the microphone on any of my devices so it’s not a problem for me. If it were, making an opening in the Apple silicone back cover probably wouldn’t be a problem, but that may not be the case with the Speck one.
Also, can’t tell about the volume buttons. It looks like they may be longer, but the extra length is on the ends that are together. The Apple silicone back cover seems to have a narrower opening between the buttons that the buttons actually need so maybe it will fit the buttons.

I am the guy that shared the photo of the silicone case opening not lining upon perfectly with the new mini. I just took a picture with the case on, and there doesn't seem to be any interference from the case opening.

Sorry, BasicGreatGuy, I’m terrible with names. Thanks for posting your update. If the misplaced camera opening doesn’t interfere with the camera, I’m probably not going to bother altering the cover at all. I don’t expect to be looking at the back or letting anyone who would care handle the thing.

Just sharing some testing results on my iPad Mini 5th gen.
Definitely supports USB-C power delivery fast charging. It’s about twice as fast as charging with the 12w charger, according to testing I’ve done.
