This has nothing to do with 120Hz or 60Hz screens. There are plenty of modern 60Hz screens that don’t have this issue to this degree.

The “fix” is to give them even more money for a device with better screen technology

Nice to see more tech outlets are covering this. Engadget now -apparently they have reached out to Apple to see it’s hardware or software related.

If it's a hardware thing and linked to the way Apple build Mini 6, and not just something that occurs on some devices in varying degrees, then I might have to just cancel my next order. I really can't deal with having a wobbling screen in portrait mode.

Probably old and insufficient ram with the new chip…Apple always thinks the best fix and “upgrade” is just to throw a newer faster chip in and call it good….heat issues and ram account for many problems in Apple products.

I’m running the 15.1 beta and mine does have the issue unfortunately.

It’s caused by the drawing of the display and the screen refresh rate. the screen draws left to right and when you move scroll the display you can see the jelly effect. Scroll speed an exaggerate the effect. a variable refresh display would fix it and increased draw rate can reduce the effect but im guessing the display on the mini is of the same standard as old iPhones and iPads so it’s just something you will need to get used to or just return it.
This has always been the case. I remember seeing this effect years ago and just put it down the the update rate of the display. It’s a bit the same as rolling shutter in photography. Probably the same thing going on.

I had the jelly scrolling on Samsung S5e, which was OLED. In vertical position, the screen refresh goes sideways, causing the effect. Surprising to find such a poorly made and positioned panel in Apple device (in some photos looking worse than mini 5)

I mean, sure, if you close your eyes when you scroll then there's no impact on your experience.
I pretty much only use my iPad in portrait mode, so that might explain it.

If you read anything using continuous scrolling, then it’s incredibly impactful. I prefer to read using continuous scrolling and enable it in kindle/books ebooks when possible.
And outside of ebooks there’s also a lot of examples where you read purely by scrolling
- articles, journals, newspapers, wikis
- reader heavy websites like reddit, twitter, forums like this one, etc
- any site catering towards original fiction or fanfiction
- messaging apps like whatsapp, discord, LINE
Basically… literally everything that’s not an ebook. If all you care about reading is ebooks, you might as well just get a kindle. 😔

Run this full screen, holding in landscape, and follow one of the lines with your eye. You will see it tilt back and forth. Easier to see if you hold it far away.
It may hypnotize you at the same time 😵😵😵
btw, the jelly scrolling is very obvious on my 2020 iMac 27" and slightly on my 2018 11" Ipad Pro

Sorry, but no. jelly scrolling is NOT a function of a 60 Hz screen.
