There are four dates in play

1) announcement

2) press reveal (today)

3) initial availability (Friday)

4) eta on new apple orders (currently november, was october, was september)
Gotcha— thanks! So, then my plan to get one if I get lucky in store is still valid. lol I still expect this will be “tricky”, and thus may prevent my ability to buy (which is alright).

My MBA was ruined by a leak in my ceiling. I really want the new 14” MBP, but am hating only having my iPhone as a computing device… thought the new iPad mini might help me limp along until MBP is available. I jumped on the pre-orders for the first Gen mini when it was announced. Love this form factor, and this upgrade is a banger!

I like the strategy of buying a companion device (you might buy later any way) to buy more time to save or upgrade a main device. It even works with a fruit in season analogy!

Sorry about the water damage.

Thinking of finally getting one as my first ever iPad. The note taking and potential for drawing with the Apple Pencil v2 is probably the biggest draw for me. I've had a Galaxy Note for several years, but find the screen is too small for practical use.

Should the Pencil work just as well on the Mini as the Pro aside from the smaller screen size? Wondering if it can work as a drawing tablet for light use.

Seems like the main features lacking versus the Pro models are Face ID and ProMotion display. If you're reading on the iPad and don't touch the screen for awhile, will you have to keep unlocking with fingerprint or is it smart enough to know to keep the screen on?

Also wondering how well the Mini will work for occasional video editing, e.g. using Premiere Rush. Anyone know if the USB-C port on the new Mini will support a USB hard drive like the iPad Pro? And is the new A15 powerful enough compared to the M1 on the Pro? Right now I have a MBP 16". I'd also consider an iPad Pro to have the extra screen space and keyboard option for work, but the smaller size and price of the Mini are appealing.

You’re telling me about her criticism of the original Apple Pencil that came out in 2015!? Lol. What are her current criticisms? And she was still probably not big enough back then to where she felt she could sometimes be honest.
Her current criticisms are the purple is too bluish and the pink too silver…what else do you expect from this basic?

That should answer movie or casual drawing question Procreate’s Ui seems best to use with this small screen size.

my 2018 iPad Pro 11” that I gave to my sister on Saturday has USB-C, not TB, and either direct connection to a USB-C ssd or via HP’s Thunderbolt Dock G2 120W worked perfectly including screen mirroring and being charged. I see no reason the iPad Mini 6 cannot replicate these functions.

lunch time in store trip to the local Apple Store this Friday for me.

PS: just wished 128GB, 256GB & 512GB we’re the options like the iPhone 13 non-pro models yet I suspect chip and storage shortage was to blame for this.
