Seems weird to me apple is shipping the iPad mini 7 with iOS 18. I wonder why apple isn't shipping it with iPadOS 18?Apple is shipping the iPad mini 7 with a version of iOS 18.0, which is no longer the current version of iOS 18.
You must be thinking of the (non-existent) iPad mini Pro...Plus ProMotion please.

^^This. Yet we have complaints about this here, just mind boggling
IIRC, that's if one buys them at an Apple Store.Whatever happened to Apple doing updates while devices are still in their boxes?![]()
Whole article needed to be corrected for using iOS instead of iPadOS, good catch.Seems weird to me apple is shipping the iPad mini 7 with iOS 18. I wonder why apple isn't shipping it with iPadOS 18?![]()
I seriously doubt the "Need to". They will be able to, but need to? I don't think so.After that day one update, iPad mini owners will need to install a second update next Monday, which is when Apple will release iOS 18.1. iOS 18.1 is the first version of iOS 18 that includes Apple Intelligence features, which the iPad mini 7 will support with its A17 Pro chip.
IT CAN’T ! The apple pencil pro uses a new attachment at the top of the iPad that isn’t compatible to charge the pencil 2… Updates only adds new things and do not add features al available on other iPads….That'd be nice. And it'd be even better if the update included Pencil 2 support.
as far as i know, that was or is an iPhone-only affair at this pointWhatever happened to Apple doing updates while devices are still in their boxes?![]()
Hardware that should get several years of software updates will have one very quickly. I mean, really, who gives a damn.
I'll get it if I can delete FaceID. That way I don't have to hold the device up to my face, take off my shades/hood and open my eyes wide just to use the thing.I'd get it if I can download FaceID.
Bonus for you, you don't have to do any of that with the iPad mini A17 🎉I'll get it if I can delete FaceID. That way I don't have to hold the device up to my face, take off my shades/hood and open my eyes wide just to use the thing.
Simple.I assume that this means if you want to use a backup when you are setting up your new iPad mini A17 you'll have to set up as a new device, update, erase contents and settings and then set up using the backup (as you can't restore a later backup image onto an older iOS as I recall)?
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand how that's an answer to my question?Simple.
18.0 comes installed on Mini 7.
18.0.1 will be available to download on 10/23
18.1 will be available to download on 10/28.
So to answer my own question, once I said I wanted to set up the new mini from my old mini it said I needed to do a software update. It then got on with doing that, rebooted, and restarted the setup process. Nice and seamless.I assume that this means if you want to use a backup when you are setting up your new iPad mini A17 you'll have to set up as a new device, update, erase contents and settings and then set up using the backup (as you can't restore a later backup image onto an older iOS as I recall)?
