Starting today, Apple's new iPad mini 7 with A17 Pro chip is available for same-day or next-day pickup at Apple Stores, with no pre-order required. Online orders are also beginning to arrive to customers today.

Customers across Europe, Asia, and other regions can now place an order on Apple's website or in the Apple Store app and arrange for in-store pickup at a local retail location. Apple has yet to update its online store for customers in the United States and Canada, but that will change in the next couple of hours.

To order a product with ‌Apple Store‌ pickup, add the product to your bag on Apple.com, proceed to checkout, select the "I'll pick it up" option, enter your ZIP code, choose an available ‌Apple Store‌ location, and select a pickup date. Payment is completed online, and a valid government-issued photo ID and the order number may be required upon pickup.

The iPad mini is Apple's smallest tablet device and the latest model features a slim-bezeled design, an A17 Pro chip with support for Apple Intelligence features that are coming in iPadOS 18.1, a USB-C port, and Apple Pencil Pro support. Base storage has been doubled, so the entry-level iPad mini starts with 128GB of storage, up from 64GB. 256GB and 512GB options are available as upgrades.

The 12MP wide back camera on the new iPad mini now supports Smart HDR 4 and uses machine learning to detect and scan documents right in the Camera app, while the USB-C port delivers 2x faster wired connections than the previous generation, with data transfers up to 10Gbps. The iPad mini 7's cellular version supports sub-6GHz 5G, and now includes Wi-Fi 6E for faster 6GHz connections. Bluetooth is improved to version 5.3, and Apple has replaced the nano-SIM slot with eSIM-only connectivity worldwide.

Note that iPad mini models sold in Europe do not come with a power adapter in the box, whereas models sold in the US do include a 20W USB-C adapter.

The iPad mini comes in four colors, including Blue, Starlight, Purple, and Space Gray. It starts at $499 for the 128GB Wi-Fi-only model, going up to $799 for the 512GB model. Cellular models are available for $150 more over the base price of each configuration. Apple is also selling new $59 Smart Folio cases for the iPad mini in matching colors, while the Apple Pencil Pro that works with the iPad mini is available for $129.

With Apple Intelligence? It's still not released. So it doesn't have it. "Support for Apple intelligence" is not the same as having it. Apple only sells a promise like some failed AI devices like Rabbit R1 or Pin did. You'll currently still have to trust and see if Apple is going to deliver.
it can have it if you add the beta software in...

and in a week it will have AI initial set of features so you're splitting hairs at this stage.

given devs already have the code running, and a timeline of rollouts, there's not a huge amount of trust required.

i'd rather they get it working and right than just throw things out to meet some timeline.
otherwise you get CloudStrike and Sonos apps :)

This product is being sold with iOS18.1 and functional Apple Intelligence? I thought Apple Intelligence was coming around October 28th.

And I’ll go even further, next week we’ll likely see 18.2 beta. So by next week, we’ll have writing tools, image cleanup, Genmoji, image playground, notification summaries, and the new Siri interface with ChatGPT. That will already be most of the intelligence features.

What is the final verdict on jelly scrolling?

There's no "final" on release day. Give it a few days and many eyes not influenced by ad dollars will provide their take. Eventually there will be some kind of consensus. However, the very best judge is your own eyes. Even today- years after the release of 6- some still say they can't see it at all while others seem bugged so much by it they do not buy.

So go see it with your own eyes and you'll get the only verdict that really matters.

What is the final verdict on jelly scrolling?

Based on the videos I have watched, it is still there but massively improved compared to the previous mini. There are a lot of side by side videos. Not sure you will actually notice it outside of torture tests, which is why I believe so many reviews said it was "fixed".

As the owner of the 6- using it as BOTH tablet and phone (VOIP app with buds)- those who buy, ENJOY. I use my 6 every day. It is as important to me as "the precious" is to all those who make the phone the center of their tech universe. I think Mini is the very best iPad in the lineup in spite of select faults like me readily seeing the "jelly."

One of the best things about iPads vs. "the precious" is the mysterious(?) "long in tooth" effect seems to come so much slower... probably because a product like Mini is THE LATEST gen for upwards of 2 or 3 years. So instead of feeling some kind of press to upgrade every 2 years or so, it's realistic to buy this 7 (or in my case, keep using the 6) and probably not feeling the need to upgrade until Mini 10 or 11 for 7 buyers today (or 9 or 10 in my case). My prior hop was from 2 to 6, after about EIGHT years. I expect the same in the next hop.

Enjoy your new toy. I'm confident that many will be quite happy with it... for many years to come.

Related because I agree the mini is the most portable and easiest to use on the go. Why have that not added MagSafe to iPads to allow a magnetic grip to easily be added when on the go? I always feel awkward using my pro in landscape when moving around.

A few months back.

Craig: Hey Tim, have you seen this? This chatGPT voice thing seems very cool! You should give it a try.
Tim: Hey ChatGP...
Craig: No, juts ask it what you want, no need for special words. For instance, ask it to explain something like how blackholes are made, or anything that is on your mind.
Tim: Oh ok.
Tim: Hey ChatGPT, "how can I use these leftover A17 chips and basically do nothing else to make a new product. I feel my customers haven't bled all their money yet, perhaps we can still squeeze them dry."
Craig: Timmy! No!

Ask Apple.

While you're at it, how about a Mini PRO model? And how about putting the 3.5mm jack back, as there is plenty of space in there and that's the path to true lossless playback? And how about putting the sim tray back as there is plenty of space in there and international travelers can get much better data pricing with heavy competition in the SIM card space vs. the sometimes 0-1 or maybe 2 in some country supporting E-sim (usually at much higher prices than SIM-based offerings)? Some people want FaceID. Some want full CarPlay support. Some want full ApplePay support. Some want thinner bezels and thus island or notch. And on and on. A wish list can be quite long for a "perfect" Mini. And, of course, perfection is also a moving target depending on who makes the list.

To your issue, the workaround is put it in a case with some kind of handle or similar to make it easier to hold in landscape for you. I have my 6 in a case with no handle and don't really feel like it is awkward myself.

That's so they can discontinue the mini after lackluster sales.

People keep writing this doom line and yet the (apparently reliable) data I saw not so long ago implied that almost 1 in 5 iPads that sell is the Mini. If that is true, there will be no discontinuation anytime soon. Why? Because there is too much money- and profit- in it. While I don't know for certain that the almost 1 in 5 data is- in fact- true (only Apple could confirm or deny that), I do know with 100% certainty that Apple likes money & profit.

Yeah, that is a solution, but then I am constantly going back and forth between a case and the keyboard case. Just seems like at this point it would have aligned more with the iPhone in that regard.

There's a great abundance of not being aligned with iPhone... such as ApplePay only partially implemented vs. iPhone, CarPlay apparently being in iPadOS but not activated, FaceID tech, etc. I don't think Apple has any aspirations for Mini to be very similar to a "big iPhone." Instead, they would rather keep them distinct enough that most people buy both.

I'm the relative oddball making my cellular Mini 6 double as phone too (VOIP app with buds) but many won't do that or don't even think it is possible... in spite of an incredibly easy way for anyone to find out that yes, an iPad can also function as a phone... in the very same way that a phone or an iPad can be a Map or a flashlight or a tape measure or a TV, etc. For many, it seems iPhone is THE assumed base tech purchase... and that all other possibilities stack up atop that foundation. For me, Mini 6 is the equivalent. I have no iPhone at all.

I like that you point out it does not have a power adapter, we in EU are used to that, what you might want to point out is that Apple "AI" is NOT available in EU

For the 3 days I owned a Mini 6 back in 2021, I never noticed the "Jelly Scrolling", but I did have frequent headaches while I noticed its poor screen quality and contrast compared to the Mini 5. Jelly Scroll or not, if the Mini 7 fixed the display well enough to eliminate my eyestrain and resulting headaches, I will probably purchase one in time, as the Mini 5 is starting to show its age. BTW, does anybody know if Mini 6 cases fit the Mini 7 without modification? I still have a Mini 6 case that I never used. I am wondering if it would fit an eventual Mini 7.
