Seems unlikely, but I'm holding out hope for FaceID and a screen update. Also, feels like the mini needs some attention on the software front, because the padding from the edge of the screen to the apps feels excessive on it.
I feel it would generally benefit from an adapted layout. Personally, the thing that bothers me most is that the widgets are quite small, making them notably harder to read compared to other devices.

Fix the jelly scrolling problem. And actually not needed if just sell an iPhone Unfold that unfolds into an iPad mini.

I keep holding on to my iPad mini 5 because of its form factor and Home button:

Big bottom bezel and Touch ID on the front in the center of the bottom bezel make it easy to hold and unlock one-handed, as a quick-grab device that I often carry on my trousers’ back pocket (yes).

can anyone explain: is this a budget product for those trying to save money or a niche luxury product for those who want a highly portable iPad for targeted needs? If the latter, well we could pay a few more bucks and get the entire wishlist satisfied.....

I can no longer use the iPad mini, the screen is really dated. It's not fluid at all, it seems very slow and laggy.

I do everything with my iPhone which has a smaller but beautiful screen (iPhone Air)

iPad are expensive for old technologie, except the iPad Pro. But Pro is too much big for me, it’s not comfortable for use on sofa.

Slow and laggy? what model do you have? the mini 7 doesn't seem slow to me.

It will always irk me that they made the aspect ratio slightly more narrow in portrait orientation when going from 5 to 6. Several websites no longer render correctly because of the change. It made the bezels too big AND reduced functionality. Boo, Apple. Boo.

So, fix this alongside the obvious move to 120hz.

I think the author is confused! The next iPad Mini (iPad Mini 8) IS the long-rumored, redesigned OLED iPad Mini, albeit at 60Hz. Here is a roadmap that @Jukanlosreve on X put together last year.

The current Mini screen sucks. Fix the screen first, then I might consider buying one again. I still hang onto my Mini 5, since the screen is far superior to both the 6 and 7.

This and the iPad Air 7 will definitely get Promotion 120 Hz displays for sure, now that the base iPhone 17 has it. It looks like Apple have finally decided to make Promotion a 'standard' feature for all their midrange products going forward. Entry level products like the 17e, base iPad and upcoming A18 Pro Macbook may stay with 60 hz screens though.

Apple's eighth-generation iPad mini is likely to arrive next year, so here's what to expect.

ipad-mini-7-feature-blue.jpg

The current iPad mini came out in 2024, with the main upgrade over the previous version being the A17 Pro chip and Apple Intelligence support. The previous generation introduced a complete redesign and the A15 Bionic chip.

In August, Apple mistakenly shared code that revealed key information about the next-generation iPad mini with the codename J510/J511: The device features the A19 Pro chip, which is used in the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The current iPad mini uses a version of the A17 Pro chip from the iPhone 15 Pro with a five-core GPU. The A19 Pro used in the iPhone Air also has a five-core GPU, as opposed to the full six-core version in the iPhone 17 Pro models, so it seems likely that this binned version of the chip will be the one used in the next iPad mini.

No other new features or changes are likely beyond some refreshed color options. The iPad mini is essentially a smaller version of the iPad Air, which has only seen minor improvements such as chip upgrades since its redesign in 2020. Apple is reportedly working on more substantial upgrades such as an OLED display for future models in 2026 or 2027.

There are no specific rumors about when the next iPad mini will be released, but a launch alongside new iPad Air models in the first half of next year seems likely.

I just want Face ID. That’s it.

It will be really bizarre if it doesn’t come with a 120Hz refresh rate screen. That’s the one and only reason many people, including me, didn’t buy the current model!

I've been wishing for an iPad mini Pro since they did the 6th Gen. That said, I may just end up getting a standard iPad Pro as it would more useful size-wise for me.

If they give the iPad mini the ability to work with an extended desktop on an external, I'm in! Oh and a better screen would be awesome!

The processor is very powerful, that's absolutely not the problem.
It's the 60 Hz screen that seems super slow when all our other devices are 120 Hz.
It even seems slower than other iPads which are also 60Hz

I was going to buy an iPad mini 7... I played with the screen for 2 minutes in the store and changed my mind.
The high price don’t match the screen.

It's a shame because I love the size.

Yeah I’ve always wondered why the mini has a strange app layout, all too central with lots of space on each side. I’m with you on this!

I enabled large icons in settings which makes it look marginally better in my opinion.

Definitely the latter. It’s not a budget device, the opposite in fact. You can buy a standard iPad for a lot cheaper with a bigger screen which offers much better value.

For some reason apple charge a premium on top of their usual premium for the mini, I suspect just because they know there’s people out there willing to pay for the preferred small form factor.
