iPad mini already setup & plugging into iTunes for the first time

My daughter has an iPad mine and wants to connect it to her macbook, but iTunes wants to set the iPad up as new.

I assume this is going to wipe its contents. Is there a way round this ?

Actually, no. Click "set up as new" and you'll get a message to the effect that the iPad is already set up. Counterintuitive, I know -- Apple needs to fix this!
