Made an extremely poor choice in getting an iPad mini last month and still ordered the iPhone 6 Plus. The phone hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure that's the size I wanted (I saw it in person multiple times). As for the iPad, I'm not sure whether I should keep it or sell it to get the iPad Air 2. Can anyone who owns both an mini and Plus give me their input?

the mini is still almost 3" bigger its not like using the same device if thats what you are getting at, I can't see you not using the mini but using the air

I only have the 6 and mini and for me the mini is used to give my phone a break so it has battery left to be a phone when I leave the house

I own both.

I don't get this place. The second their phone gains 1 freaking inch, all of a sudden the iPad is meaningless.:rolleyes:

Reason I was asking is because I haven't used both side by side and wanted to ask people like you who have have both. Who knows maybe it could've been the same thing (more or less)? But thanks glad to know I didn't screw up.

I own both (6+ only arrived this week)

I'm currently typing this on the mini. I use the mini round the house, 6+ when out and about. If you only had the 6+ you could certainly get by with it and I'm not sure if I didn't have a mini if I'd get one -I might get the air instead to make a bigger difference, but the mini is about 3x the size of the 6+ (With the mini in landscape mode I can put the 6+ across it vertically 3x) so there is a limited overlap in terms of size.

I also have an ipad2 and use that quite infrequently now because it's less comfortable when sitting ona couch or similar. Maybe the air would be better in that respect.

side by side comparison the plus looks small beside the mini

so if you have a need for an iPad and and iPhone than its not like they are too close in size to benefit from the difference

In my opinion, two completely different products. When I went from the iPhone 5 to the 6+, my phone and tablet habbits didn't change.

I sold my iPad mini retina as soon as I had an iPhone 6 plus for a few days. Ended up never picking it up off the coffee table anymore. Before when I had the 5s I used the mini iPad quite a bit.

I still have a Macbook rMBP though for when I really need a bigger screen. I think a 6 plus and a notebook/iMac should be fine for the majority of people.

iPad still has it's place for reading comics and textbooks but that's pretty niche.

I have an iPad mini and a Plus and still use them both. There was a thread recently on this topic where I showed some pictures comparing the two. Long story short, with the exception of widescreen video, the iPad mini is markedly superior to the Plus. The screen is way bigger, and the 4:3 aspect ratio seems better to me for a lot of uses, not to mention the fact that there is a fair amount of software that is iPad-only, or at least better on the iPad. I love my Plus, but at the end of the day it's a big phone, not a small tablet.

I have been using iOS since the first iPhone and first iPad and it never occurred to me before. After looking at the side by side it would be a neat feature of iOS for the normal icon grid to match the number of icons on the dock. As in when you add a fifth or sixth icon to the dock the normal grid of icons would get another column or two.

Sorry for the off topic thought.

I'm completely opposite of what everyone is saying. I used the mini very little before and not at all since getting a plus. I do a lot of web browsing and with the plus need to do virtually no pinching to zoom (which is what I liked about iPad). Comic books are great but n the plus while they were a tad small on the 5s.

Yes the mini is much bigger than the plus. But then the air is much bigger than the mini and by all accounts the usability of the mini isn't less than that of its big brother. My point? There is a sweet spot. I have found that, for iOS, my sweet spot is 5.5". I don't see myself purchasing iPads doEn the road unless I am presented another use for it that is compelling to me.

Been using the mini since it first came out and then moved to the retina mini. Recently picked up the iP6+ and haven't been able to put the iP6+ down. Having said that, the mini is still in the stable for around the house as well as for entertainment during traveling. Keeping the mini for sure!

I still use both mini retina and plus. Mainly plus though now.

Kids use the older mini and iPad 2.

Wife doesn't use her mini since she has the Plus now.
Gave the iPad 3 to my Aunt since it was the least favorite around here.

I have the plus and the ipad air. The plus is just a larger iphone to me it does not enter tablet realm at all including the mini.

for me the Air is king at home and on long trips. The Plus is king everywhere else. they are separate experiences even though they do similar things.

I have the Plus and iPad Mini 2.

The Mini 2 gets the most use around the house, especially now that I have SMS forwarding and such.

Obviously, as soon as I step outside, the Plus becomes the work horse that I need it to be, if necessary.

Although they're only one size apart the 6+ is still considerably smaller than the Mini.

I have the 6 but took my Mini into work and put it next to a mates 6+ and the Mini is significant difference still.

You'll find the Mini nicer for watching movies, reading etc. think of the 6+ as what it is, a phone with a massive screen ideal for mobile use and the Mini for spending a bit more time staring at. :)

I waited until the recent iPad mini 3 announcement before I decided to buy the iPhone Plus or not. I ended up getting the iPhone plus because the mini didn't receive the updates I wanted. I also need a new phone and that helped me decide.

My setup :

iPod Nano - comes with me everywhere.
iPhone 6 4.7" - comes with me everywhere.
iPad Air - comes with me at the university, road trips, long days etc.
rMacbook Pro 15" - stays at home most of the time.

I wanted to get the 6 Plus but I realized that my iPad is coming with me most of the time so I saved myself 100$. I thing a made a good decision since I'm not regretting purchasing the 6.
