My definition of great is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I haven't seen anything come close on iOS yet. If someone has, I'm all ears. :D

Oblivion has great gameplay, but the story is kind of lacking. It's to be expected though due to the open world design. I prefer RPGs will stronger stories, but gameplay is important as well.

What kind of battery life do you get when gaming? My ipad 3 would last about 11 hours web browsing only or 6 if gaming. Is the mini the same?

I haven't timed it or anything, but I have not run out of battery yet during the day and then just charge overnight.

Got the lightning av hdmi adapter earlier today at a local Apple Store. I cannot wait to download lots of games now especially to try for free.

I played RR2 for a little while and never distracted at all because the Mini is small and light. The game never lagged whatsoever.

We ain't talking Xbox 360 or ps3 picture quality for this game but it was very enjoyable.

It just keeps getting better for me with the Mini. So glad I bought it.

Gaming is the main reason I have wanted the iPad mini for a long time. These are some of the games I am playing on the mini and highly recommend.

Bastion
Rayman Run
Arc Squadron

I am hoping to find a good RPG (story and gameplay) for my next game to play over the holidays.

Baldurs gate out by the end of the month!

cool story:

After 2 days of my new iPad mini, I have to declare that using the mini for games is awesome. More awesome than an iphone 5 AND and ipad 3 combined. Sure the 9.7" is great for game display but it's heavy and definitely a chore to play with. On the mini, it's absolutely perfect. No real analog controls but the light weight and smaller size is a joy to use for gaming. The graphics is fantastic as well and nearly all the games run so well, it's absolutely amazing.

I didn't expect this because I was so infatuated with the "terrible screen display" - which it is not but only when not compared to the retina ipad. The mini is a wonderful device!

The iPad 4 destroys the mini in CPU, gpu, and screen and is a far better gaming device.

I was playing real racing 2 HD last night, it works well and much easier to steer, though once I stopped accelerating as my right thumb was too close to the edge and I think the iPad decided it was just my thumb resting there.

I will say it wasn't the smoothest I've seen the game though, I could see it stuttering a bit in race but YMMV.

I noticed that as well. RR2 seemed a bit laggy at times compared to the iPad 4, not enough to be annoying but it was noticeable. I'm still undecided if the mini or the 4 is the better RR2 platform. The light weight of the mini is nice but I generally don't race for more than a few races at a time so the 4's weight hasn't become a real issue. The 4's size is a better fit for the iPad as a steering wheel interface.

I still play Ticket to Ride quite a bit and prefer the mini's size in that game.

I slightly want to get a bigger capacity iPad so I can have all my games (I have 16gb cause I'm poor)

If you were really poor, you wouldn't have an iPad Mini (like me :p. Typical poor college student.. but might get the iPad Mini 2 )

Nope, game playing device should be around 4-5 inch screen.

I used to own playbook 7 inch and gaming is still irritating because your finger can't reach all area while holding on to it.

Btw, if Ipad mini is just mainly for games then better invest more on Wii U. Games should be casual on the touch gadgets.

I agree, game playing on the mini is excellent - I haven't turned on my PS3 once since I got my mini. Used to love game playing on my gen 1 iPad, so was very much looking forward to getting the mini and playing on it, and I haven't been disappointed at all, quite the opposite, the new form factor is even better to hold and play games on.

The games I'm playing now:

The Room (well, I finished it but it was so much fun, waiting for new levels)
Lili (someone on here recommended it, just started playing, seems fun)
Tiny Wings (addictive and very fun)
Doodle Jump (for me not quite as fun as Tiny Wings, but a good one)
Lep's World 2 (must have for those who loved the old Super Mario game)

I'm surprised the iPad mini is handling games well such as Fifa. I'm interested to hear how the newest NOVA and Modern Combat 3 play. I assumed the performance would be sub-par because of the older chip.

Does this mean in a year games that come out will be sub par while my 8 month old iPad 3 is handling them just fine? I like the mini a lot but I feel like I'd be trading in for older technology

Third time was a charm to download Asphalt. The other two it got to about 60% before crapping out. Wish it did that sooner so you know where you stand instead of just patiently waiting ending up wasting time and then having to try again.

Don't know the size of this game but it sure took its time to download and install but I'm glad I got it now. Looking forward to playing it soon. Thanks again!

Playing FIFA 13 on my iPad mini is so much better than playing it on my regular iPad. Screen is perfect size for the controls.

Agree 100%. Had the mini and returned it and just bought another one because I hate playing FIFA on my regular ipad. So much better on the mini. Now at least I have some sort of justification for keeping it!

FIFA 13 is awesome on the iPad mini. I've been thinking of buying Bastion -- is it any good, guys? I'm a fan of RPGs, especially more of the traditional turn-based type games. Aralon HD is great if you're into Elder Scrolls' type games.

Bastion has been pretty fun. It's game play is action-RPGish (i.e. Diablo, Torchlight), but different enough where you probably would not compare it to either of those games. So far, it appears to be completely narrated, and the story is not it's strong point, but it's still been fun to play.

Bastion is great. I suggest you also check out Swordigo. It's also amazing.

Asphalt 7 is enjoyable, even though it's a grotesque 1.1GB's. It took less than 20 minutes for the DL.

No big games such as NOVA3 can even run smoothly on the mini. Also no retina, No thanks. Ipad 4 is the best for gaming by FAR. Try playing modern combat as well. Or even try playing asphalt 7. They wont run anywhere near as smooth. :apple:

Also even if they can just manage to run those high end games now, they will fail in a year and be totally unplayable on the current mini. Also retina makes a huge difference.

Infinity Blade 2, Modern Combat 3 are big games. They run fine on the mini. Better than fine actually.

So the developers are going to update their games to make them unplayable in all those iPad 2s and Minis? Ok. Sounds like a great move on the game developers part.
