iPad Mini Cracked Screen

So I have a two week old iPad Mini, and I put it in my book bag for about 3 minutes while I walked up the stairs. I got to the room and ouled it out and it had a hairline crack across the entire screen. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? 😕And repair options that cost less than $80?

Less than $80? I think you can do DIY repair according to intructional video on youtube.

Is it truly a hairline crack? If it is that's something that's covered under warranty, bring it into an Apple store.
