The biggest problem that I have it people throwing around words like "horrible", "unreadable", "garbage", and crap like that. The exaggerations and hyberbole is tiring. The new fad apparently is getting headaches from the mini screen. Sigh.

I wish people would measure their comments a bit. Either that or consolidate all the "Mini screen is horrible" posts into one thread. That way one can ignore it and focus on more balanced reviews and descriptions. But I guess that wouldn't be as much fun.... :apple:

The melodrama is self-defeating. What I mean is that exaggeration and hyperbole attacks directly any credibility these people may have. I read terms like "horrid" or "horrible" or "headaches" and just roll my eyes, and throw them into the same group as the roaming trolls, because they say the exact same things, but we've learned to ignore trolls. Perhaps they're *all* trolls who use this sort of language, but we'll never really know because they refuse to act any differently.

Feel free to look up my posts from my first 2 days of ownership of the mini! I praised it! I then started getting headaches while using it...get over it!!! Saying someone is a troll because they speak of an actual experience really makes some of you look like you must be on apples payroll:rolleyes:

7" tablets will always serve a purpose. But the fascination with small tablets is a fad like it was with mobile phones. As 10" tablets slim down they will dominate. 5" mobile phones, 10" tablets are the future.

Agreed.

I saw the iPad Mini in person for the first time yesterday...and frankly I was getting flashbacks of my time with the Nexus 7.

It was just too small. I really have to say that Steve Jobs nailed it with rejecting a smaller iPad and going for 10-in. screen. I thought the Mini was going to be great, but I can't get into it.

Ummmm, cool quote. Where'd you get it from?

Nobody is going to assume that that is actually what you said as I included the actual quote right above it. So i'm not sure what you're trying to get at here.

Well, you know people just like to defend their decision in purchasing a product.

I find it funny prior to the new retina iPads they were great tablets, now their so horrible. Why were they not horrible back then?!?

The screen elements and font rendering were optimized for the 9.7" screen. Thats why it's still a decent experience on the iPad 1/2 even with a relatively low resolution of 1024x768.

On the hand, the Mini's screen elements and font rendering was just taken directly from the 9.7" screen and placed into a 7.9" form factor without modification, resulting in a poorer user experience.

I have an iPad 2 and an iPod Touch 5G (retina screen). Got curious about all the hysteria about the mini's screen and retina versus nonretina, so I opened this thread on both devises and scrolled to the same message on each.

Aside from slight differences in brightness, both were perfectly readable and did not cause me headaches or incontinence. I guess if I used a magnifying glass to examine the differences, I would have found some.

Glad I made the comparison as I was getting worried that the mini I ordered as a Christmas gift would cause permanent injury to the recipient.

I'm not saying the screen is terrible but it's a noticeable downgrade on a retina display. For some reason the Mini - perhaps due to the way pixels make up the text on the smaller screen, seems worse to read on than the iPad 2. I'd actually hoped the smaller pixels would make the Mini seem a little sharper than an iPad 2 (and therefore not far off the retina look) but it hasn't worked out that way, sadly.

I love everything else about it, though. The size, weight, feel. If it was retina I could see many people on the go preferring it over the full-size iPad, with perhaps only those that use apps where the bigger the canvas the better (music apps, painting and graphics, etc.) favouring the larger model.

Many users are experiencing problems with mini screen but not other small or low resolution screens. There are many issues like color, contrast, resolution, glare, and formatting.
Yeah, no.

None of those things is unlike countless other products out there. It's an entirely invented problem caused by user error or psychosomatic hysteria.

For me, the size and portability of the 7" tablet far outweighs the advantages of the retina screen. True, I would like a retina based mini at the same price point, but what I have now exceeds my expectations and I'm quite happy with it

Well, that proves it!

BTW, if you'll read again what I wrote, I never said what you claim, but you took it that way, fine.

If you're one of the ones telling the truth, setting aside the whole strange notion of it, perhaps it's the ones who are lying (and there are far too many on here) that you should take this up with, because as I said, it's them who are killing *your* credibility.

This ^_^

I tested the iPad mini for the first time today, the screen is horrible in comparison to the iPad 3/4.

If the iPad mini 2 has a retina display, it's the end for the regular iPad line. 7" is the perfect size ( and weight ) as the screen is large enough to read without zooming in ( despite not having a retina display ). And it's really great that you can hold it in 1 hand easily at very low weight.

In the future, I'll probably retire my iPad 3 for a iPad mini 2/3 ( if it has a Retina display ).

There is no way it is HORRIBLE, so u just lost all credibility!

Last time I check, Apple doesn't make anything that is Horrible!

Total agreement. People use superlatives far too liberally. What happens when you encounter a device with a truly unusable screen? Where are you going to go verbally? 'Really horrible'? 'Extremely super over the top horrible'? 'Horrible to the power of two'? Come on. Think a bit before you express yourself.

I know a bad display when I see it, and I'll take the 163 ppi screen in my Mini over any other previous iPad I've owned.

Text that reminds me of my iPhone 3GS pales in comparison to actual defects I've come across like debris and fingerprints under the glass, backlight bleeding so bad you can see it on a white background, or a (red/green/yellow) tint so strong it overpowers every other color in the visible spectrum.

The screen on the Mini isn't perfect, for sure. No, it's not retina, but you know that already. For me, I can very easily go from my 4S to the Mini with no trouble. Sure, it might cause some people headaches. So does the retina screen on the MBPs. Everyone is different, and no device will be perfect for everyone.

Hubby just got a 3rd gen iPad, I got a Mini. For me, the difference in size and weight was well worth not having the retina screen. It's so much more comfortable for me to hold and use the Mini. But, that's my opinion. People need to stop assuming that their opinion is true for everyone else. I don't understand why there's so much animosity about this stuff. If you like the device, great, go get one. If not, choose something else.

5" mobile phones are the future? Nah, it'll be 6" mobiles phones.

Next year, it'll be 7" mobile phones.

7" tablets are dead.

Wait. What?

I just bought a mini a couple days ago. Yes, the screen is basically the same as the iPad 2. But the near weightlessness as compared to my iPad 3 will making carrying it back and forth to work daily so much nicer.

I keep a lot of reference material on the iPad and having it all available in a lighter, smaller package - but still easily readable (versus a full-page PDF on the iPhone's screen) is a godsend.

Will I still use the iPad 3? Yep, especially when reading while sitting on the couch at home. But for my travels and on the go, I appreciate the smaller footprint of the iPad mini.

I liken it to my 11" MacBook Air versus my 27" i7 iMac.

I gave my Mini to my Mom. She used it for 2 days and said she wants the big iPad because the screen is blurry. She is one of the least technical people I know and of course I never brought up my feelings in the screen to her.

Agreed. Everyone seems to want to use such extreme terms to describe the screen and justify their choice of devices.

If people believe that they are getting headaches from the screen, who are you to tell them that they aren't?

Were these same people complaining about headaches from the iPad 2 at the same resolution? Probably not.
