iPad mini: How to stop video ads?

Whilst playing games on my iPad mini there has been video ads appearing when starting the game. I have been told that to stop this I have to enter settings and turn wifi off. Is this correct and if I turn wifi back on in the future will the ads reappear? I am running v8.1.2
