For anyone who has an iPad Mini with iPadOS beta installed, are you able to get the desktop version website by default on Safari? Wondering if this was a feature for the iPads with bigger screens only, as this user on YouTube wasn't able to do so. Hopefully its only because its still in beta and not because of its size, as The Verge pointed out Google Docs works quite well in the desktop version of Safari.

My iPad Mini is not playing nice with desktop mode either. I just installed iPadOS 13 on my 11 inch Pro and desktop sites are definitely loading. I’m guessing it’s something with the mini because the 11 inch just worked. This is disappointing.

That is disappointing. I wonder if the new 10.5 inch Airs have desktop mode. Hopefully its not a pro only feature.

Maybe it’s due to the size of the mini?

I have iPad OS 13 loaded on my Air 2 and get desktop websites. So don’t think it’s a Pro only feature.

Haven’t tried it yet on my Mini 5

There is a setting to “Request Desktop Site” in the Safari section of the Settings app on the Mini but toggling that still doesn’t help.

I was finally able for force desktop sites by clicking on the “Aa” symbol in the url bar. It’s not as convenient but it works.

Thanks for the update! I feel viewing desktop websites on the mini wouldn't be too far fetched, especially when used in landscape mode.

I hope this is a bug. I get maybe having the setting off by default for a mini but the user should be able to set it...

Can we report this as a bug? Was kind of looking forward to this for all iPads.

On the iPad Pro, there is a ‘request desktop website’ section, inside of that is a toggle for ‘request on all websites’. Does this exist for the iPad mini?

If so, then we might be looking at a bug. If not, it sounds like they are intentionally leaving this option out, which will be a shame.

Has to be due to the size, which makes sense

The screen resolution is identical to a 9.7" iPad though.

This - I wonder if it’s not a setting for those devices either. Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough.

I’m not about requesting. Where is the “demand desktop site” toggle?

Is it confirmed to be working on the 9.7” iPad?

Ahaha that’s right. I think of Airs as 10.5 now.

Is screen resolution the same as screen size? I can’t imagine Apple using a desktop version website on say an iPhone. Maybe they think the mini’s screen size doesn’t give the best experience either.

Fair point, not sure then. Maybe just not a great experience on the mini.

Potentially - but it’d be nice if Apple gave us the toggle at least. Sure, leave it off by default, but don’t remove the toggle entirely. I can understand not having it for an entire device line, but removing it from one particular device just because they feel it might not be the ‘correct size’ isn’t great. iPad mini users should have the option at least....something Apple hates giving users I know...

That should be for us to decide. The iPad mini page of the apple website says “iOS on iPad mini gives you the full iPad experience in the most compact iPad.“

Okay? I guess submit a complaint to Apple. It’s a beta also, could be coming.

Yes. I have both the mini and a pro and the pro works just fine but toggling that in the main settings doesn’t help the mini.

And it seems like doing the request desktop site from the url bar in safari isn’t persistent. It works while you are on the site but once you close the browser or open a new tab it goes back to mobile.

    Maybe it is a bug.
