iPad mini iPad mini microphone not working

Hi everyone.

Love my iPad mini.

Siri doesn't work. And whenever I record a video. No sound. At all. It's updated to iOS 6.0.1 and the iPad is only 5 hours in my possession. Everything else is great.

Am I missing something?

The microphone is right above the front facing camera.

If I speak right up to it my voice will get recorded faintly, other than that distance forget it, just hiss.

Siri doesn't hear me.


Is it my unit or all they all like that?

I have an ipad 4 here that works fine.

I can speak from a few feet away and Siri has no problem understanding me.

Sounds like you have a fault. Take it back to apple for a new one.

The microphone is on the back toward the top middle.

If you using one of those decorative skins on the back or a poorly designed case, it may be blocking the microphone. Use a voice recorder app. If you sound muffled or faint, the microphone is likely blocked.
