I am going to pick up first gen ipad mini for my dad. It will be used for movies, music, photos and some web browsing and email.
Which color would be nice.. Space grey or white/silver.. I am tending towards the white one because it blends with Ios7 and overall look nicer but really think that white bezel is distracting to watch tv shows/ movies:confused:.
Also, Which one is more scratch resistant..? Help please...:)

Neither one is more scratch resistant, I think they're the same material. As for the front, white will definitely hide blemishes better, if you're not gonna use a protector.

For your father...you can't go wrong with the darker space grey color

For watching movies, I think Space Grey is better, because it hides the bezels better. The bezels is more visible when watching movies, but it hides finger prints better.

I personally like white better than Black or Space Grey

I'd go with the space gray, I think it provides better viewing experience, i.e., doesn't distract from the screen like white mini

I had a white iPad3 to match it to paper, because most of what Iam doing is reading and notetaking. But with the iPad mini Retina I got black and it is maybe the best choice for the slightly smaller screen. For the Air I would have taken white without thinking twice.

I purchased a white rMini and a space grey Air. I prefer the subtle tone of space grey.

I'd go with the space grey. Its less of a distraction then the white model.

Space Gray for all the reasons others mentioned. Less distracting, better for movies, etc.

I have a white rMini and the bezel doesn't bother me. I was just tired of black color devices. I feel like white is Apple's color and it makes the devices look cleaner. But if I had to buy an iPad for my dad, I would go with the space grey.

Don't buy it. I strongly recommend to save a little more money for a retina model.
iPad mini 1st gen is heavily underpowered.

Btw the white / silver is my choice and it is less scratch prone.

Thanks:) i have ordered a white/silver 1st gen ipad mini. I tried space grey and white at the store and i liked the front of white more than the back of space grey. The white silver did look neat and tidy. Also, all my previous ipads, macbooks, iphones had black bezel so i wanted to try something new this time.

As for retina mini, I didnt notice huge gains in speed for real usage scenario of the ipad like the movies, music etc.. Though more power is really useful in web browsing and games which i dont want to play any on this.. I think my dad would like this one, as for me i might get an ipad air2 in future:D

For music and videos it's fine, but I'd bought something just a little bit "future proof"

Lol, I even started a thread back when about having the back of the white Mini on the back of the space grey! :)

To each there own.

I went with slate because I was a huge fan of the unique blue tint that comes off the black color used. It's really really nice looking and very unique as a color choice. I will be the first to say though that the drawback of slate is that it is more prone to scratches than both SG and white on the back-side. To remedy this I've kept my iPad mini in a life proof case, which was my original intention anyways because I dislike babying my products from things like jacket zippers.

Of course now Slate is only available as a refurbished color from the Apple store. All the new iPad Mini (non retinas) come in SG or white/silver. I also like how it's pretty discrete at being an Apple product. Much as I dislike wearing logos on shirts I really don't feel like I need to shout "Apple!" at everyone who sees me using my device. This also helps keep away potential thieves on the subway and other places.

Manufacturing on the original iPad minis (non retina) came with the Apple logo polished into the aluminum casing, the new non-retinas are an insert. Not really that important but maybe worth mentioning

Also considering Apple bent over backwards to improve support on the iPhone 4 with iOS 7.1 which is considerably older I wouldn't be too worried about your product going extinct right away.
