ipad mini not turning on ,tried everything

so last night my sons mini stopped working, doesn't turn on, I've tried the home button/power button, I've tried recovery mode and dfu mode byt nothing, next genius appointment I can get is next Tuesday!
anyone else had this or is it a case of wait and get a replacement, he got it for xmas

Gotta ask: did you try charging it using the powder adapter, not via USB?

Yes. Had it plugged in for hours. Nothing.
