hi there, I am ios only user (no mac, no pc) and I do consider buying myself an ipad, probably mini 5, but I am not sure which iphone should accompany it... or if I buy myself 8 plus/Xr whether mini is not too small... so, let big numbers decide for me:) thanks in advance for your inputs and comments.

I don’t think the size of iPad that suits is so related to the phone, more related to your use requirements of both.

I have an SE phone because i only use it as a phone, hardly ever for anything else. When my mini 5 arrives I will have 3 iPads ... I could make do with one (then it would be the 10.5, a great all-rounder, as it is portable, great screen, big enough for movies etc.) but I do nearly all my work on iPads and the three different sizes will all have different uses.

I wouldn’t have just an iPad mini, too small for some of my uses, and although I love the 12.9 and use it the most, I wouldn’t want just that, too big for some of my uses.

No one can advise you on what suits you best, unless you give a very specific description.

My phone is a 5” Sony Xperia so Android, smaller width wise than the iPhones which were just too wide for me. In good light it’s a great camera for the money (far, far better than the one on the 5s it replaced) and it saves me having to fork out for insurance as it was only £170.

I don’t know if it is because I am used to that camera now but the cameras on the iPad Mini seem grainy.

Ok, to describe little bit more my use case.
Current situation: I am solely using iphone 7 - web surfing, videos, photos, social media and after 1.5 year with only iphone I do think I want something more

Previous setups: I used to have macs but we can skip this,I jave no need for “real computer”, but I was bit experimentig with uos devices - I had two plus iphones (really liked the screen but aleays afrer year with plus phone I found it so cumberstone in the field that I have returned to smaller form factor), I had ipad mini 2 and liked it quite a lot (it was my go to web surfing device as i had macbook for something more).

And now: we have a baby so I bought myself better camera, so I am finding setup that would work. Probably iphone+ipad - iphone for live photos (but for some higher quality pics I will use fuji camera) and on the go device, ipad for home surfing, books reading, videos and some basic photography work (I am no expert, all I need is get pictures from fuji to my ios device, do some basic adjustments and save it to the cloud+if i find a way, get them to the nas). So, I do consider mini 5 as i really like form factor (not sure if any bigger ipad would be so easy to as iphone replacement at home) but I am not sure if screen is not too small for photos. And on the other hand, if somehow I find myself buying Xr/8plus, is not mini really to small to buy it as complementary to the big phone?

I have the 6S+ and a Mini 5 as my only iPad. Hubby has a 6S and a 9.7 pro as his only iPad. The size of the iPad you want has nothing to do with what phone size you want. They are devices you use in different settings. Only up you can decide what you want and need.

As well as various Android tablets, I own a 9.7 Pro, a 10.5 Pro and a mini 5. In terms of phones, I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S10+ and a Galaxy S9+. I see the mini very much as a subsidiary device. I would not have bought it had I intended it to serve as my only tablet.

Be more specific.

I have: XS max, iPad mini 5, iPadpro 10.5, iPad Pro 12.9 (latest model). Also MacBook 12in.
XS max: always on me, great device. I even considered using it as my only device, but the small screen is not optimal for prolonged activities, the eyes get tired
iPad mini 5: great for one handed use in bed/couch/cafeteria
12.9: great for desktop work in the house. Pretty big to carry it around. Pretty heavy to hold it up.
10.5: limited use now. It is a great compromise for people who cannot afford more than one iPads. For me it has the disadvantages of mini (screen size) and the disadvantages of 12.9 (limited portability and no one handed use)
Macbook 12in: my intention is to go iOS 100%, but the truth is that there are still some things that are being done more easily in macOS

7+ and Mini 5. If the Mini 5 had been around when I got the 7+, I would have bought a 7 instead. I only use the phone when I'm mobile these days. I'm using the 5 a lot more than the phone.

Galaxy S10e + iPad Mini 5. The Mini just arrived yesterday, however, it’s been incredible at replacing my S10e for basic internet browsing, social media consumption as well as other various tasks when I’m at home.
