I have returned a couple of laptops bought from Amazon and received full refunds.The disadvantage of buying computers and tablets from Amazon is that, unlike Apple, they cannot be returned once opened. Make sure this is worth the discount to you.

Amazon is an authorized Apple dealer - the iPad will be new and authentic. But be sure it says "ships from" and "sold by" Amazon and not a third party.
If you use a site like camelcamelcamel, you can get notified when an Amazon price hits your desired buy point. You can also see how volatile Amazon's pricing is over time for a given product.
