Can you tell us what was the things that you didn't like from the screen... I know the reolution but what were those things that you saw in that screen that made you say... This is really bad
Fair question.

I just felt like things looked very grainy and I did not think the colors were very accurate. It almost has an "out of focus" look to me. I was very disappointed...I thought it would be a minor trade off, but to me it was a deal breaker.

Unbelievable. A dissenting and legitimate comment about an Apple product is not "spamming". Grow up.

Yes the screen is THAT bad, especially if you have an iPhone 5 and iPad 3/4.

If you could somehow get Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones to come and zap you with one of those things from Men in Black that makes you lose your memory you could be alright. Bottom line = going from retina to mini display = terrible.

Maybe to you. I owned the iPad 3 and have an iPhone 5. The mini is awesome. There's no other device out there that's this portable and runs iOS! Portable as in it fits in my jacket.

I think you should have given it more time. The brain can adjust to it if given the time.
Maybe so, but I'm thrilled with the iPad 4. Very smooth and the screen on it is sensational. I realize that some value size over screen perfection and I actually wanted to be in that camp, but in the end, the screen quality of the 4 won the day.

Not debating your point regarding the portability. Overall I think the device is amazing, just the crap screen with which I take issue.

OP, I agree with your post and don't think your thread is redundant. It can't be said loudly enough how much Apple lost it with this display. And I fully empathize with your frustration which I know is based in the fact that apart from the screen it is such a nice product. There was no need to make it retina, but give it at least 50% or so more pixels to make it acceptable.

This is a very fair and accurate statement.

Is the iPad Mini screen really that bad?

Oh yes, absolutely. Only reason they get away with it is because they're Apple. If any other company would have come out, in late 2012, with a display this far inferior in resolution to the competition, people would have called it the end of said company. But Apple can get away with it. And I say this as probably one of Apple's biggest fans.

No, I felt like buying it, taking it home and using it.

Does it have a return policy? I believe the answer is yes, so I thought I'd utilize that return policy.

I'm merely stating that the screen is junk. This is a maddeningly sad Apple product. They'll sell the heck out of them...I don't get it, but they will sell.

What's maddening are idiots who keep posting these threads with titles that bait people to read it. You have an opinion, fine. Yours has already been expressed by many on here. Instead of just going to the store and testing it like a normal, logical person; you buy, return, then come online to post yet a new thread about it. Do you really think you're that special? Maybe you just have too much free time and you need to find a purpose in life. Either way, thanks for wasting your own time and taking the rest of us down with you.

I now COMPLETELY understand why Jobs chose not to listen to the customers before releasing new devices. The most vocal ones are mostly noise that have no clue what the state of technology is or how things are made. Think the mini is ******? Go make your own better one. It'd be refreshing to see people actually contribute something useful to society instead of just trolling these forums.

yup I agree, I still think the majority of people saying the mini screen isn't bad either haven't used the retina, or are trying to convince themselves to keep the mini... my guess is many minis will be returned before the return period is up

Ummm....50% more pixels wouldve made it retina.... Just sayin....please dont make it retina but make it retina.

I own both the iphone 5, iPad 3 and retina MacBook and compared to all those screens it is a noticeable and substantial downgrade when it comes to text, saturation and vividness. The screen of the mini isn't even close.

With that said, if you like the other aspects of the device, you may end up keeping it.

Look back to how Steve jobs sold the retina display when it first came out. All the negatives of a low ppi apply to this device

Check your blood presure now, please!

Feel better now??

That's a nonsense comment. He/she can't make a better one because it would take billions of investment to do so. Apple is in the position to make a product like the mini because they have the investment and years of experience. And that in turn is because they have made overall good decisions that put them ahead of the competition. But here they f*ed up -- it's as simple as that. And flip-flopped, in a way that is impossible to rationalize, on their previous sermon that reducing pixelation is important to user experience.

The question is do you feel better now. This is your thread.

I just don't get why so many people on this forum take it so personally that Apple flubbed up this device.

As for the "rant"...this is a Mac forum, people are going to rant (good and bad) about Apple products here! Neat, isn't it??

No, I liked the idea of having my own thread! Thanks for adding something constructive (sarcasm) to it!!

Why not have your own thread on Apples forum. At least then they could take your criticism seriously.

I have to agree with this. I'm actually surprised that there aren't more vocal critics of this screen, it is that bad.

No. They didn't f up at all. The product is great and it serves its purpose quite well. Just because a select few techies are looking ahead into what the device "could be" in the future, doesn't mean that those technologies exist today.

Things take time to develop and money doesn't change that. By your logic if everyone donates $1000 to cancer research then the problem will be magically solved by tomorrow.

How good or bad the screen may or may not be is in the eyes of each individual user. I personally feel the resolution is fine, most certainly retina is better. Some of you though sound like adolescents complaining cause daddy won't increase your allowance.

Okay so the iPad Mini is not for you! There are millions of others that will feel it's fine and that includes me. I also had and iPad 3 and now have an iPad 4. Actually been using the mini more.

It's an individual choice and why folks have to attack each other over is beyond me.

Apple pretty much blew it with the mini. Sorry but its true. Whether you consider the half assed scaled down from 9.7 inch to 7.9 inch apps that end up with text too small to the low resolution and contrast on the minis screen. This isn't even including the ridiculous price tag and outdated hardware inside of it.

The ipad mini needs its own app layouts and not just reuseing the 10 inch layouts most of which end up too small on the 7.9 inch screen. They should have gone for a closer to 7 inch size and had a 16x10 layout like the nexus 7 (with an atleast 1280x800 resolution). The ipad mini is exactly comfortable to grasp with one hand because its too wide. As far as the apps scaling thats Apples fault for messing up in the first place and not making iOS with multiple resolutions in mind like android, windows, blackberry, and pretty much any other os works.

OK I guess I'm being too negative about it. Of course if the low resolution works for most people, it would be an overstatement to say that Apple screwed up just because they reversed their position on the importance of high resolution.
