Personally, I got a flawless iPhone 5, but my iPad Mini had a chip on the beveled edges right out of the box. Im not going to bother exchanging because I dont care, but it is a problem that shouldn't be dismissed so quickly. If this is a coated aluminum then a crack can only be the start of a bigger problem as the chipping starts growing over time. I can feel the edge of the nick on mine so I can see why people would feel it is annoying and want the issue addressed.
Got a 16 and a 64 gb and both have the scratches around the lightning port. I'm headed to the store tomorrow to ask about them. It is not a big deal, but it might affect the resale value and since I resell my items typically at the next release, this is very important to me.
What I don't understand is that the white mini should not be anodized, right? It looks just like my iPad 3rd gen, and I've clumsily plugged that in a thousand times with no scratches. Is the aluminum way different?
