iPad mini iPad mini Verizon (3G only - no LTE question)

    I have not setup a prepaid account yet, and have no desire to start one quite yet, but I would like to know that I do not have a hardware problem:

    On my new iPad mini Verizon 64GB I am only getting 3G service indicated- No LTE (FYI - LTE option is activated in the cellular setup) .

    The question I have is if anyone with the Verizon mini has LTE service showing up prior to activating the cellular service?

    My guess is that this may be normal for the new iPad mini's and iPad 4th gen Verizon devices, but when I got my iPad 3rd gen Verizon back in March I did see LTE service prior to activating a prepaid account.

    I believe you will not see LTE until service is activated.

    My VZW iPad 3 never showed LTE unless I had active service. When my month expired it only showed 3G.

    It is because LTE requires an active SIM. If you don't have a SIM installed or the SIM is not active, it will drop back down to EVDO (3G). This is for Verizon and the AT&T model as well (but AT&T shows fauxG aka 4G before activation).
