Any rumors out there?

If I were Apple, I would aim for the middle of November hoping to get the initial rush out of the way early before the holiday season. I would want a good two week buffer from black friday (but a healthy in-store supply on black friday seems doubtful right now.)

Although, reports say that the numbers are still awful. But, we have a decent amount of time until the middle of November so they should be fine. I suggest getting one on launch day if you do plan on getting one. Seeing how bad inventory is now, it's going to be hard to get a hold of one after launch day.

22nd. I'm more curious when they'll finally announce the date. It's getting close to nov.

Yea I am hoping a few weeks before Black Friday too.

I guess pre-orders are a long shot at this point with all the supply constraints.

It's really odd for Apple to not announce a shipping date. Usually that's considered "vapor ware" and most Apple fans rip on other companies for doing that. I'm certainly not a fan of it.

I think they may be trying to maximize sales of the Air. With the Mini Retina being spec'd similarly, they might expect that some users who can't wait will pick up the Air on the 1st since it's a sure thing—which will ease some of the demand on the Mini Retina which is rumored to be in short supply. I'm for sure getting one for my wife, and as for me, I'm going to wait to see what reviews and teardowns say about the iPad Air.

If I had to pick a date, I would pick the 22nd.

It kinda sucks that you can't see both of them in the store on Nov 1. It would be nice to be able to compare before buying.

I'm not usually a cynic, but this may be a reason/the reason that the Retina Mini is coming out AFTER the 14-day return policy of the iPad Air has expired....

I don't blame them if that is the reason. Look at all the posts in iPhone forum. People buy a space grey 5s, use it for 10 days, then return it because all along they wanted a gold iPhone. I hate people who do this, driving up the costs to everyone.

They said "later in November", most vapor-ware products can't even guarantee a release in the next 6 months.

I remember last year Nokia announced the new Lumia 920 before the iPhone 5 but it wasn't released until 2 months after the iPhone 5 and all they had said was "later this year".

Good guess! Keep in mind though, sometime late this month or early November, Apple offers extended Holiday returns. Way beyond 14 days :)

me after all night waiting outside of an Apple store "I really wanted a gold one, but I'm not gonna leave empty handed so I will just settle with a black one I guess."
Apple specialist "well you can return this within 14 days and get a gold one, hopefully we will have more by then"
me "that's true, but I don't want to abuse this policy though"
Apple specialist "true, well a lot of people do that"

More like 29th or even 1st week of December after ps4 and XBOX One launches are complete

I don't think Apple cares about the PS4 and Xbox One launches. They will release their product whenever they want to. If it were me, I would launch the retina mini on the 22nd just to take attention away from Microsoft.

Apple needs the retina mini on the market before Thanksgiving.

Pre thanksgiving is my guess. I'm not buying this shortage rumor we keep hearing. If it was that bad, Apple wouldn't be deploying to as many countries, nor would have the release been announced for November.

The following dates I think we can eliminate:

November 1 - 1st week after iPad Air Launch
November 2 - 1st week after iPad Air Launch
November 3 - I don't think Apple will launch on a Sunday
November 4 - 1st week after iPad Air Launch
November 5 - 1st week after iPad Air Launch
November 6 - 1st week after iPad Air Launch
November 7 - 1st week after iPad Air Launch
November 10 - I don't think Apple will launch on a Sunday
November 17 - I don't think Apple will launch on a Sunday
November 24 - I don't think Apple will launch on a Sunday
November 27 - Day before Thanksgiving
November 28 - Thanksgiving day Apple Stores closed
November 29 - Black Friday
November 30 - Day after Black Friday

There are 16 possible dates left.:D
