As someone that loves Android on phones, ipads are really the only way to go with tablets. I owned a Nexus 7 (2013) and the experience wasn't great.

You'll love your mini but be aware that you'll love the retina one more. The screen was just so much better with reading.

The iPad is much more streamlined and "professional" than the Androids. I love it honestly. And with iOS8 it will be even better.

The apps for Apple are just heads and shoulders beyond Android apps. Android apps for the most part look cheesy and are hard to use. Lots just scaled up from phone apps. Apple's apps are beautiful, made for the iPad, and easy to use. That alone is worth the price difference IMO.

I am into cars so this is my comparison:
I have a 1993 3000GT VR4 with all kinds of modifications. For everything I have invested in it, it is a fairly cheap but fast car. That said, I need to keep an eye on the tune, suspension adjustments, etc. It also isn't very refined (it is loud, rides rough). This is the Android. Does everything you need/want but maybe not the most convenient.

The BMW 3 series is the iOS device. Does everything you need/want, but much more refined, easier to take care of, easier to use, looks better, etc. Obviously more money, but if you aren't into tinkering with cars (as I am not into tinkering with tablets) but want a nice/fast car, it is probably worth it to you.

iPad Mini with Retina Display Battery Life

Just a quick question for those of you out there with an iPad mini with Retina Display, how's your battery life? Mine seems be a little iffy. I just got a replacement iPad mini Retina (home button was acting up) and the battery seemed to be a lot better (like 15 hrs before and 10-11 hours NOW). I just charged to 100% last night and am going to run LIGHT tasks until 20% to see what I get. How's your battery life?

A little background:

I am about to enter my third year of medical school where I will be in the hospital all the time. I kind of want a tablet so I can look up references, take notes, read if I have down time, maybe patient education, etc.

I have an original Kindle Fire now. I put a "normal" version of android on it so it works ok. Somewhat slow.. but the biggest problem is it is heavy. Carrying that around all day in my pocket will kill me (when I already will have stethoscope, tuning fork, reflex hammer, phone, etc).

Another issue is that I am broke. Tuition is 50K a year and I am getting married in a few weeks..

1. If I get the iPad Mini will I regret not going for the retina? I can get the iPad Mini used or refurbed for pretty cheap whereas the retina is basically full price still.

2. Is the iPad Mini worthwhile over something like a Nexus 7? (I know you guys are biased)

3. If anyone has experience using a tablet for what I want, how did it go? Is it worth the expense?

Any input at all is welcome. Thanks!
You can't afford a tablet or anything else if you are broke. However, the mini is still worth it. The nexus is nice but web pages behave weird in it if they aren't optimized for mobile.

My usage is probably 60% web browsing and email. The other 40% is usually FaceTime calls, iTunes Radio and navigation via Maps in the car.
