ipad movies....?

So I have been trying to load .m4v files and they crash iTunes. It only takes .mp4??
Odd thing is the torrent says that m4v are for ipod.

.m4v are fine for iTunes, and iOS. Are you sure the movie file isn't corrupted? Will it play in iTunes, Quicktimes, etc?

That's what I thought. iTunes loads it all the way to the end of the progress bar and then it simply freezes. If I do a .mp4 file...it loads w/out issue. Dunno what's going on.
