Hi
So I bought an iPad mini with a pretty good deal on eBay from a seller. But now I got the package and checked the iPad package and the whole language is in Russia I think.

I am from Germany (EU) and i read that Apple will NOT honor Warranty for non EU devices if you live in EU. Sooo...I should better send the iPad back. Right..?!

People can change the language because the owner could have been a Russian person living in the EU. The way to tell if the ipad is from an EU country is to check the model number. This website explains what to look for. Basically it is the last two letters before the slash '/'. These two letters define the country code. Check to see what your ipad is. If the last two letters are RM then it came from Russia and thus send it back.

Also, if you are planning on buying an ipad from ebay and plan to get apple to fix it at some point you better ask the ebay seller to give you the original sales receipt of the ipad because Apple tends to only deal with the original owner of the ipad unless it can be proven that transfer of ownership has occurred (you are given the original sales receipt).

I never had issue with Apple devices and luckily never needed the Warranty. Im just worried if I would might need it, that they dont honor it.

EDIT: Nvm, edited this part because I was wrong

Yeah I just let the translator check the photo. It’s indeed an Ukraine address. I’ll send the iPad back and buy it from apple directly as refurbished.

Well at the bottom of that screenshot is says 'Apple's EU representive is Apple Distribution International Ltd. HollyHill Industrial Estate, Cork, Ireland' This implies to me that the ipad is supported in the EU. I also did some further checking and it would appear that parts of Russia are considered to be within Europe whilst other parts are considered to be in Asia.

So, like I said, the ipad will have been registered against the original owner (ipad model number and serial number) and thus will show up in Apple's records as to who the original owner is. If anything goes wrong and you want to send it to Apple to fix, once Apple check their records they will notice you are not the original owner and they may refuse to deal with you unless you have the sales receipt because having the sales receipt means transfer of ownership of the ipad has transferred from the owner to you. That is why it is so important to obtain the original sale's receipt because there is far too many con's and scams going on which causes massive losses to the manufacturers, which is why more and more request to see the sales receipt as proof of purchase before they will deal with someone.

I bought it from a seller, not a private person. So I got a receipt that was included in my package. Would that be OK?

Im considering to keep it maybe, because of the EU thing that is mention on the package.

if you bought it from ebay you will get an ebay receipt. That receipt is totally different to the original sales receipt that came with the ipad. If the seller was the original owner of the ipad then they should have put the original sales receipt inside the packing. Yes you can prove you bought the ipad but you need to look at it from Apple's point of view which is the ipad could have been stolen. Without the original sales receipt it will just make your life a bit more awkward if your was to try and get it repaired by Apple.

The first three languages are using Cyrillic, but I think the fourth is Hebrew and the fifth looks to be Greek. I think the address in the bottom-left is in Ukraine.

Correct, the first 2 paragraphs are in Russian, 1 in Kazakh, the following 2 are Ukrainian, then a bit of Hebrew and Greek. The address is also in Kyiv, Ukraine. I believe that this is a model that was sold in Ukraine; the go-to main language in Kyiv pre-2014 was Russian, so makes sense Russian came 1st on the text.

Interesting, very interesting. I could've sworn it was a Ukrainian model...
So you're keeping it? Well I think it's probably fine, viel Glück!

Danke! / Thanks! Yes I'll probably just keep it... I dont plan to take it anywhere, will mostly stay at home so nothing should happen to it anyway. I could even get AppleCare for it, if i would want to.
If I plan to sell it someday, ill most likely send it to a reseller anyway and I doubt they will really care about the package language.

I think you are confusing the Apple warranty (1 year), which is international, with the EU legal warranty (2 years), which covers only products purchased in Europe.

That only covers retailers, it does not cover private seller(s) (ebay auctions)

I did not buy from private seller on eBay. It was a normal seller
What is a 'normal seller'?. Ebay is an online auction house and unless sellers disclose in the sale description that there is warranty, even if the item is listed as 'brand new', the standard law on warranties does not apply because items are being sold through an auction. Auctions are considered 'second hand sellers' and thus warranties do not apply unless specifically specified by the seller. The ONLY consumer law that applies with ebay is 'money back guarantee' of which ebay has a 30 day MBG and 'not as described' even though ebay has a policy for that because you can take an auction seller to small claims court for selling something that is 'not as described'.

I don’t know if it’s in your country something else, but here are normal big sellers like Dyson for example selling stuff on eBay. So it’s not a private person and you get a normal receipt for purchase
