My iPad randomly not responding to finger gesture. Sometimes it isn’t responding to pinch zoom in and out, sometimes not responding to swipe left and right, sometimes not responding to tapping. Turning it off and on fixed it but within a few minutes or hours it happens again. I tried to clean the screen and my finger to no avail. It happens with all apps. Is there a permanent solution to this problem?

If restarting fixes the issue then it’s a software problem most likely. Have you tried a clean restore?

I have same problem on 2017 12.9 iOS 11.3. The pencil always works however. Sometimes I wonder if I can reproduce the issue without using the pencil first, this issue seems to pop up when I switch between pencil and finger (though I THINK it’s happened even when I wasn’t using the pencil).

I’ve noticed similar problems on my 10.5. I had a first gen 12.9 and it never suffered from this issue, nor did other older iPads I’ve used. It’s too inconsistent of an issue to be a software problem, so I’m pretty sure I have narrowed it down to this particular screen being very sentsitive to fingerprints/oils/smudges/dirt. I get lazy and tend to forget to clean my screen. So after a few days of using it regularly, it starts to have these issues. That is a reminder to clean the iPad, and after cleaning the screen with a damp cloth and drying it with a microfiber cloth, the problem always goes away.

Perhaps there is something different about the newer True Tone screens that make them more sensitive to dirt, but it seems that is the case.

Huh! Could be it... I also don't clean my screen enough.

Nevertheless, it happens much more often for me when I've been using the Pencil and then switch to finger, I really feel like this is also an issue.
