ipad not responding

my ipad is not responding to any command even to shut down it is displaying the following massage:

ipad not backed up
this ipad hasn't been backed up.
backups happen when this ipad is connected to a wi-fi
pls help

Did you try holding down both home and power buttons together until it shuts off?

thanks. i have been able to restart it and it is working properly now
