So most assume there will be the release of the iPhone O.S. 4.0 in June/July; this obviously impacts the iPad. What software features do you think Apple needs to implement that you've yet to see it do? Do you think the missing apps (clock, stocks etc) will re-imerge? I've read that quite a few people are waiting to see what O.S 4 brings, well what features can it bring to sell the iPad to you?

Need is a strong word, and sometimes users mix them needing/wanting something with Apple needing to do something.

Clocks & Stocks - I would imagine there will be some powerful beautiful iPad versions from 3rd parties.
e.g. Stocks - a 9" screen gives lots of space for more features, bigger charts etc.
e.g. Clocks - You could visualise timezones to show what time a place was, have a spinning globe to indicate this, or have multiple clocks for multiple time zones etc.

I'd imagine it'll bring something new, and some updates.

I still reckon Apple has something up it's sleeve on this one. They won't have just given up on them. But of course the more time passes the more 3rd Party iterations will pop up and that can only spur true creativity from developers as users look for the best option. Oh and I like your ideas by the way.

It will be magic! No multi-tasking though

Haha! That bit in the video is cringe-worthy, almost worse than the 'magic and revolutionary'.

As for 4.0 I think they'll bring back the basic apps, weather etc. Perhaps introduce magazines and newspapers to the iPad, a kind of subscription model.

Personally I think that if Apple doesn't release the 'missing' applications by the iPad release, I think they will re-incorporate them in some sort of widget-like function with OS 4.0.

Of course, add the usual multi-tasking aspect that will almost undoubtedly be in iPad OS 4.0.

I don't know what if anything will be new but it'll carry an upgrade fee.

I wouldn't be surprised if iPad 3G owners got the update for free, that's if there is a charge in the first place.

I don't think there'll be an upgrade fee for this update as the gap between product release and update release is not that great, especially for 3G and international users. Though if they did that they would have to continue that precedent or risk a user/media backlash.

No it won't. Apple isn't that stupid. OS 5.0 will likely carry the upgrade fee, but not 4.0 for sure.

Hmm, I agree to a certain extent. The problem though is when the iPad refreshes will take place. If like the iPhone it is on a yearly cycle, then they will face the same problem every year. The only way around it would be to charge Previous Generation Users.

This one is an exception because we honestly have no idea what to expect from Apple over the next few years in terms of the OS and hardware refresh. Apple is not going to charge for 4.0 because it's the first thing that they have to release for the iPad as 3.2 doesn't showcase the full power of iPad. Once everything settles in, than Apple can start to figure out the pricing situation.
