I bought my dad an iPad for Christmas. However, I am flying home tomorrow and want to take the unopened box with me on the plane because I don't trust the baggage guys. Will TSA make me open up the product?

Nope. They will probably give your junk the once over though.

Enough is enough! I have had it with these mother****ing iPads on this mother****ing plane!

I've seen a person take a gigantic coffee maker on the plane as carry-on luggage . I think your iPad should be fine.

I know that I can take it on the plane. They just usually want electronics to be placed out of their case and the box may be considered a case.

The only thing you may have to do is put it through the scanner-thats what I had to do with my netbook-beyond that the only reason they would make you open it is so they can play with it....

I was able to carry on a sealed MacBook 3 years ago while flying home for Christmas. Things may have changed with the whole TSA touching people thing, but thought I'd weigh in.

They didn't even bat an eye at my iPad when I flew with it.

My Volkswagen flip-out key on the other hand, you'd think I was trying to bring a loaded AK-47 on board.

The first time I flew with my iPad, I did not take it out of my bag. They pulled my bag aside and said the iPad and my travel printer had to go in their own bins. I haven't tried it a second time...I just always take it out now.

I have flown with my iPad 5-6 times and never had to take it out.
Same here. Now if it were some different situation, like trying to bring through an iPad that was unopened and still in the original box, you might have trouble then. But the OP didn't mention anything like that.

I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed. I saw the thread title and thought it was about a new Sam L. Jackson film.

iPads on a Plane!

You stole the words straight from my mouth!

:D
LOL I LOVE that movie!!!

Godamn you all!

So there I am sitting at work like yeahhh, time to make some people laugh with a snakes on a plane joke, and lo and behold, you all already beat me to it :(

Regardless..

"Damn, I thought I saw a new movie title for the strong-attitude Bill L Gates, in iPads on a plane.. ' I'm tired of these motherf***ing iPads on this motherf***ing plane!"

Would obviously be such a cool movie :D

He did mention that it's unopened. That said, I don't think it will be a problem, but it all depends on what the TSA agent is feeling like. Maybe just take the sealed box out and send it through by itself then they shouldn't have a problem with it.

Update: All I had to do was take the unopened box out of my backpack and put it into a separate bin. No problems.
