My Dad is looking into getting a iPad, to save some $ and monthly fee if he gets the WiFi only version can he browse a website and have safari "save" the pages in cache, so if he's out of range/in car he could still view those contents?

I realize limitations of this, but some DIY tutorial pages/etc are handy to have and good reading material for long car rides.

This would have to be a "simple" thing for dad, he's 75.....
 
Yep, there are plenty of applications that allow you to save/cache webpages for later viewing, such as Offline Pages.

Just connect to a WiFi network first, cache whatever pages you want to read, and you're good to go.
