Uh, facebook? If you don't like the app, just type facebook.com into the iPad browser and you can use the web version, just like on your MacBook.

While this is true, Facebook.com doesn't work as well on an iPad as on any desktop browser. From flash videos to chat or trying clicking on drop down menus..Everything is optimized for a computer UI and not a tablet one.

A very interesting thread, and I must say I am really impressed with the thoughtful and helpful tone in the responses to the OP.

To the OP: I have a MBA and (recently added) an iPad mini; I use both, but I do different things with both. Essentially, it is the difference between content creation and content consumption.

The iPad is a wonderfully portable device for surfing and browsing - however, to me, it is not a tool for serious work; for that, I have the MBA, and, as my job requires a lot of research and writing, I need a proper computer for that. As I travel a lot, that computer needs to be extremely portable and powerful. Hence, a high specification portable MBA.

However, as you have said you actually have an iMac, (which you use) you may not need another computer, even a portable one, in which case, it may make sense to keep the iPad.

If you keep the iPad, I recommend that you get 1) a good quality case for it, and 2) add a small, portable keyboard to it. Personally, I'm not crazy on touchscreen typing, and much prefer to use a proper keyboard.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I really do appreciate the help. I think as some has said I will use it for a few days and see if I want to go back to the macbook.. then I guess I will know for sure. :)

My iPad case should be coming tomorrow too, yay!

Think I'm the first to mention this; new iPads expected very soon.

Take your iPad back, wait a month. If you miss it, buy the new one that will hopefully have been released. If you don't miss it, well...keep the MacBook ;)

Edit: A little further insight. I too have a 27" iMac, a 15" MBP, and I bought an iPad 2 3G way-back-when. I gave my iPad 2 away to a family member, never used it. It was almost equally as awkward to carry around as my MBP, and offered less. An iPad Mini, however...I'm tempted to try.

Can't return it, I already tried. Argos' 'excluded from 30 day money back guarantee' *********. Most I can do now is sell it if I really don't want it.

Ahh sorry, didn't see that. Bummer. I got my Samsung S3 on the same "deal" at Argos, but luckily have enjoyed using it for a year.

I personally don't see the point of tablets, but that's my subjective opinion and is specific to my lifestyle/job. I currently have a Samsung S3, so the screen is big enough to watch 30 minutes of something on the commute, and it's small enough to fit in my jeans. Yeah, I'm one of those guys who is waiting on Apple to "get with the times" with regards to screen size.

I tried and tested my old iPad 2 again recently, but I ended up lugging it to work and back again without ever using it - I was getting over a week of battery life it was so underused. Everything I can do on my iPad, I can do on my S3 quicker (since it's in my pocket). Anything else, I do on my MacBook Pro or iMac, or at work, on my work MacBook Pro. The only time I remember using my iPad was when I was in bed watching Made in Chelsea on 4OD. I'm letting you into that secret - it's not something I like to admit to enjoying :p

At the end of the day, you have an iPad, an iPhone, a MacBook, and an iMac. You could be worse off. What you're experiencing is an exceptionally good example of a "first-world problem".

Count yourself lucky, and use both for a while. Not everyone can afford to do what you've done.
