Hi

I wondered if Apple have updated the settings for supporting an external display so the iPad can be used more as a desktop. I am keen on using my Dell 27” monitor but I have only seen people mirroring with big black bars on the side, unless watching video.

Yes, I hope so too. It’s available in iOS 12 but needs to be implemented in the app to support it and isn’t an OS issue as such.

I didn’t realise that, so each app that is opened could have its own resolution, i.e. Lightroom and Safari

Some Apps already do - for example things like VLC or Infuse can output to the External Display in 1080P, etc (i.e non 4:3 ratio resolutions) - the only pain is that I noticed Infuse seemed to want to be kept open on the iPad screen to play on the external one (i.e I couldn't have say safari browsing going on on the iPad and Infuse on the external screen playing a video)

LumaFusion for video editing is a great example of this. You they have a few different layouts but you can for example have the editing windows on your iPad screen but the full screen preview of your footage on an external display at the same time. Love this functionality.
