In mail on iPad, after (a) selecting a message and (b) deleting that message, the content of the next message appears in the content window--as it should. But on the left-hand side--where the list of messages is--the message being displayed no longer has a blue background. This blue highlighted may seem trivial, but without it, there is no definitive way to know what message is being displayed in the content window.

Is this a bug with my iPad, a setting I need to adjust, or something else? Thanks.

I just tested this on my iPad and see the same behavior, so definitely not your iPad. It displays the message below the deleted message, but it's not highlighted. If you wanted to, you can report this to Apple via https://www.apple.com/feedback/mail.html.
Thanks. I guess it's a bug? Not sure how a bug gets in something so simple like this, but I'm not a programmer, so what do I know.

Well, one doesn't need to be a programmer to find bugs or give feedback.

This issue resolved for me in the latest iPad os update, but the animation is a bit off. Still, better than losing the blue highlight altogether.
