I could see them launching a higher-res iPad at 32/64GB capacities only and still actively producing 16GB iPad 2's and marking them down in price to capture some of the price-focused tablet shoppers. They've done similar things in the past with the iPod Touch and iPhone.

You can't compare anything about the iPhone's pricing to the iPad. A subsidized device has a different set of rules. The only price drops with the iPads have been to clear out old stock.
