Hi everyone, is it normal if we can't press half button on iPad Pro 10.5 for volume up and down (the parts in the square below)

I have to press at the center of button, or higher/lower part of down/up button to adjust volume.

I have checked some previous iPad version and it doesn't happen.

My volume down is like that. The top half of the button clicks but nothing happens. I have to press the lower half for it to work. Top button works without an issue and never had this issue with any other iPad. Doesn't bother me that much.

just tested on mine. both top and bottom halves of volume up and down changes the volume so you might want to bring it to Apple if it bothers you.

I found that I need to press the button more strongly to make it works. It's really weird compared to other Apple devices.

It's really hard to tell without actually trying what you're stating on your device. However I did try it on my iPad and other devices, and they all seem fairly comparable to each other. Perhaps it's just the way it was designed.

I had the same issue with my iPad Air, but only the volume down button and it annoyed me. I contacted AppleCare and they replaced the device.

I have this issue with volume up button on iPad Pro 10.5. Top half clicks, but doesn't do anything unless I press it harder.

My volume up has to be pressed on the center or top of button, even a firm press on the lower portion of button does nothing(it clicks but doesn't change the volume). 10.5" iPad Pro

I just tried this on my new version 12.9". Works just fine with a light click at very tip of upper and lower half volume button.

I had the same issue with my new 10.5 iPad Pro. You could press the top, middle and bottom of the volume buttons but the very bottom one for down volume didn't work. I took it into the apple shop and they said it was a fault and replaced it. Funny thing is my new iPad now simply has one area to push. Much more stable. There was clearly an issue with the earlier models. Anyway if in doubt check in the apple shop. They were very helpful.

Same problem as well. Volume button up is having the exact same issue as you guys mentioned. I'm now on call with apple support Center and they say it is a hardware issue rather than software.

Looks like it needs to be replaced . Suspect QC issue.

They were very helpful though

No issue like that on 9.7 Pro. Works regardless of where I press it. Rare. Maybe a new design with the 10.5?

Returned for a refund yesterday. Stop putting cheap parts in $1,100 iPads Apple

You should have just got an replacement. Nothing to do with cheap parts, it’s just a manufacturing defect. Nothing wrong with a lot of ours, like mine.

As someone else alluded to, Apple does not use cheap parts in their iPads. Their hardware is much superior over other tablets on the market. But when you consider they manufacture millions of iPads annually, there will naturally be defects. It happens.

After 4 months, the situation seems worse, sometimes volume buttons don’t work. So, I decide to bring my iPad to Apple Authorized Service Provider, because I bought it oversea and there’s no Apple Store at my place. They agreed to replace my iPad. After a week of waiting, they called me to receive a new iPad.

However, this iPad has other issue that there’s a little sound when I just put my finger in Home button (before clicking).

Very upset about Apple’s product quality recently. Should I replace this one too? Really tired of another waiting week. And I’m afraid that I will receive another buggy iPad.

Keep replacing until your happy with your purchase.
the amount of money you spend for it should equal to the quality you are expecting .

I had exactly the same problem.
I realized it today, I called Apple Customer Service and they told me to take my iPad to a Store, I did and they just told me it was a fault and ask for a replacement. If anyone have the same problem with the volume buttons just call or go directly to the Apple Store and they'll replace it for you.

The volume control buttons on the Ipad Pro are junk. It broke on my 2017 12.9 after 2 months. I brought it in to the Apple store and was told, yep, we need to replace it. Instead i returned it to Costco which allows 3 months for returns. A search revealed that that has been a problem with Ipad volume buttons for years. My Samsung tablets or Google tablet volume buttons never broke. So much for Apple's vaunted quality control.

No it’s not normal, (it isn’t necessarily horrible,) but I suggest getting a replacement or repair from Apple, as it could worsen. At least that’s what I’d do.
