Did Apple silently kill this model? Long story short, I had one, and sold it a little while back. Well now I sort of want another because I miss the functionality, and they seem to be either sold out in most local places I look AND the price got jacked back up to the 949 area (where as, for the longest time, it was 799)

I know a new refresh for 2020 is coming out soon, but any word on this model?

Where are you seeing it out of stock as I see it in stock in a ton of stores in the us and the uk, including a lot of the carriers for the non WiFi model.
 
I do not do much shopping online so I use places like Target, Best Buy, and a few other local stores. I guess the price jump, and the fact that its sold out in all of the places i shop, had me alittle spooked

Best Buy and Costco had them for 799.
I just happen to find one at a Fred Meyer last week on an unadvertised sale for 699.
I think that sale is over though.

Yeah that sale ended. It was 799 for the longest time (at least 4 months it was that price), but for some reason they jumped back up to 949
