iPad Pro iPad Pro 11" battery replacement

Admittedly I use the heck out of my iPad Pro and the battery charge isn't nearly as strong as before. I'm going to send it in for a battery replacement (out of warranty). Anyone done that? If so do you know if they crack open the iPad and replace the battery or do they send you a different device (same model) with new battery?

In all likelihood, they will replace it with a refurbished device of the same model.

From my experience, they don’t replace the battery, they replace the iPad at the cost of the battery. That being said, I’d make super sure all of your stuff is backed up!

cool yeah I was actually hoping they'd replace the entire unit as it's got some scuffs and minor scratches as well so that would be fine with me.

Also I used the imazing tool to check the iPad battery health and it showed 85%, when I opened a support chat with apple they had me send in diagnostics from the iPad and they said it was showing at 100% which I can't imagine with over 1.5 years of very heavy daily usage. Wonder if imazing's tool is off by that much...

Honestly, I’ve found the battery life remaining counters like iMazing to show wildly different numbers depending on how it was feeling, how the iPad is feeling, is Mercury is in retrograde, etc.

I don’t personally, I‘ve found that the iPad itself seems to keep it’s battery health rather high for the majority of it’s life, until it finally kicks the bucket and no longer holds more than 3 minutes of charge. I had an iPad Air 2 for about 5 years it feels like, and at the end it went from reading <90% to 3% battery health in the blink of an eye, and it would turn off almost instantly when unplugged from a charger. One of the quirks of having a non-end user replaceable battery 🤷

I sent my wife's original 12.9 iPad in for battery replacement a few months ago. Quoted $99 + tax; they sent me a return box via Fedex. The iPad was engraved so I wondered how they'd do it, since they mostly just swap it out with a refurb. Took 10 days! Tracking came from an Apple factory in China. Received the iPad with new battery and new screen....and the engraved backside! It was a new screen since the original was a bit scratched up from 4 years of use. Happy with the result. Works like new

Yeah, 100% after 1.5 years of heavy use is not even possible. Hmm, I think I would trust the imazing results more, although 85% seems a bit low, but you did say heavy use.

How many hours can your ipad last on a full charge? I think 10% battery loss per hour is what most ipads have been for me when battery is healthy. So 10 hours or so on a complete battery drain.

I did not expect the iPad to be a consumable product. Wonder if they just discard the device like AirPods once they cant hold charge.
