Whos getting a bit annoyed at the slow app updates to support the 11 inch iPad? I’ve still got too many apps that do not use the full screen ratio, some video apps that have scroll bars too close to the home bar at the bottom of the screen which can make it all to easy to activate that.

Not even Google have fully sorted the YouTube app as it’s still showing the time, date and icons at the top of the screen when a video is in full screen when it shouldn’t.

Just feel like things should be a little further ahead by now.

Hmmm I never noticed that. I have to play with one in the store again.

Are you sure you're using the Youtube app and not viewing safari? I notice in Safari it doesn't go full, and you can still see the date and time.

I’m in my 40s not 80s, did you really just ask if I know I’m using the YouTube app or Safari?

In Safari full screen actually does remove all elements while playing unlike the app on the 11 inch, this isn’t an issue that happened on the 12.9 inch 1st gen iPad Pro I had before, this is an issue with how the app is on the 11 inch screen.

Here is a screenshot of the YouTube app playing a video in full screen.

Yeah same here, gmail and gmaps are worse with two black bars on left and right. I personally dont mind YouTube showing time though but those with black bars are so annoying. At least netflix works fine, prime video still have black bars like gmail.

Yeah so what seems to be the problem here ? It looks perfectly fine to me ? What is the issue here ?

My issue is still Face ID when the iPad is flat on a desk (which it is 90% of the time). Tempted to just turn it off and use the passcode only for when I’m at work. It would be awesome if apple could add tilted sensors to Face ID for the next gen to accommodate.

Maybe it’s the movie you were watching on youtube, cause here is a screen shot of a movie on youtube i just took on my 11” ipad pro and the black bars are much narrower. I love how movies & videos look on my 11” iPP

I feel your pain @WhiteHawk

Equally painful is how other replies here have no idea

Of course movies have letterboxing. The OP made it clear he is talking about half-baked implementation of apps that arent polished to work well on the 11” iPad. Leaving date, time, and battery data is a small issue, but yes it’s wrong and annoying.

If others really need an explanation, here is what Amazon Prime looks like on iPad 11”. The app is “windowed” by black bars on all four sides. The app appears to load as a 9.7” app because Amazon has not properly built the app to work on iPad 11”. It looks like crap, similar(but far less drastic) to loading an iPhone app on an iPad.

I understand he OP's issue and agree some apps are not implemented well, but FYI the Amazon Prime Video app was updated yesterday. I had to delete my old one and download again to get the update, but the new one looks great.

Finally! That took way too long... I guess Amazon had other priorities ;-) I packed up my 11” to return to Apple, so I didn’t realize the update was out

Patience grasshopper. I have the 11” and Apps are being updated constantly. All things come to those who wait.

Nothing can be done except wait. It is not Apple's job to fix, it is the developers and some may never fix. Google has no incentive to quickly fix it's product to look good on the competition's devices.
When your business model is selling ads on as many platforms as possible, I think they have some incentive. Whether they do it or not remains to be seen:)

Elf is 1.85:1 ratio, which is why the black bars appear smaller.

The bigger the ratio, the bigger the black bars.

Read the OP’s post then. The issue is that date and time are displayed while watching YouTube full screen. Which is not what should happen when you watch full screen playback in said app.

Thank you both, don’t know why that needed explaining but yep, people don’t read before posting replies.

Once again the date, time and icons are not supposed to be shown in full screen and are NOT shown on the 12.9 inch 1st gen iPad Pro with the same latest iOS version and updated YouTube app, this is specifically an issue on the 11 inch and Google have updated the YouTube app many times since the release of the new iPads yet still haven’t fixed this, which is a glitch I wouldn’t have thought would be difficult to fix.

Oh, here’s another one I forgot about, if you try to share a video on YouTube via Messages you get this, a right mess.

It’s annoying but not anything that would make me regret upgrading. I’ve got iPhone apps that weren’t upgraded for the iPhone X, much less my iPhone XS.
