This seems very premature for a iPad having such a new battery. It has been 5 months yesterday since the launch. Other than that, mine is ok. But failures can occur especially due to the nature of a lithium polymer battery.

Every lipo will swell sooner or later. There’s a reaction that occurs in lipo that releases a gas that causes it to fill the enclosed battery.

Only thing I can tell you is to have it fixed by apple under warranty.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that it's a bent device?

Maybe a picture would be good.

If the OP's iPad rests completely flat on its back on a flat surface, then odds are it's probably not a bent iPad.

Premature, sure...but not completely unheard of--the battery in my iPhone 6 Plus bulged within a year of my having purchased it.
