Silly question I know and impossible to answer but I can only afford one right now.

As of now I have iPad mini 4 and Apple Watch 3 GPS + LTE. (I’m not dependent on an iPad for work but it is nice to have, especially with a larger screen it may be helpful) Love the look and feel of the new iPad as well as the new features of the AW 4.

iPad Pro 12.9

I have both, and also had Mini 4 and AW3 LTE. If you don't use your iPad a ton, but wear your AW3 daily, I would get AW4 over 11" iPad Pro. It's a huge step up from AW3 to AW4, the new watch faces are amazing and it's finally fast enough to feel natural to use. The Mini 4 is usable on the latest iOS, so if you don't think it's limiting your productivity, I would just keep the Mini 4. (it's sorta "current-gen" still as they still sell it lol). The 11" iPad Pro is totally a different beast in terms of performance, but it's very pricey, and it's only super useful when you also get the keyboard with it, which puts the total price to more than 3x the price of an aluminum AW4 and almost 2x that of a stainless steel AW4, especially if you also factor in the cost of AC+.

Personally there’s nothing drawing me to update my AW3. Incremental upgrade. Can’t say the same for the Mini 4 to IPP2018. I have both iPads and still use them both (mostly kindle reading on the mini).

Thanks for the responses. The 12.9 seems a little too bulky to me, I have a MBP 15’ so looking for something more portable

Depends how happy you are with the series 3

Guess iPad will get better and more use out of.

I just picked up a Series 4 Nike AW and I love it a lot but I came from a Series 1 so it's a huge leap. I don't think it's as big from a 3. iPad is probably better upgrade for you.

Personally I’d pick the iPad. Since you need to ask though I assume there is no need to purchase anything, so maybe consider just saving the money as an additional option.

Go with the iPad. Although I have both, the Mini is a bit long in the tooth. The S3 Watch is newer and you obviously can hold on to that for another year.

Just going to say when you see that 44mm screen on the new watch you are going to go wow. I know I did. Helps usably greatly.

Personally I would say the differences between the Apple Watch Series 3 and 4 are much more incremental then those between the iPad Mini 4 and the new iPad Pro. I would go with upgrading the iPad

Unless you need the pro features, I'd upgrade the mini to a 2018 iPad (nice size difference, better processor, pencil support), AND get a series 4 watch. I went from series 3-4 and love it; the size alone just makes it a lot more usable.

I've had two iPPs - sold my 2nd gen 12.9 and bought the 2018 ipad to tide me over til the new ones came out, but have not been compelled to purchase one at this point. My 2018 is a great little device!

Definitely the iPad Pro since you’ll probably use it more. You already have the AW3 so I’d wait till the 5. I’m still using my AW2 and it works well. I went from the mini 2 to the 2018 iPad Pro 11” and couldn’t be happier with the new iPad.

I don't think it's a silly question! The AW Series 3 was my first AW and I was really pleased with the upgrade to a series 4. The screen is 30% bigger (I believe that's the stat) and it makes a big difference, especially if your eyesight up close isn't great. With that being said I absolutely love my 11" IPP and would pick that if I could only select one of the two choices you presented.

iPad, keep the Series 3 until at least next year.
This is what I’m doing. Got the S3 last year and the 11” iPad this year. I’ll get the S5 next year, which will likely be the same body as the S4 with internal upgrades.

Similar. I’m still really happy with my S3, but I’ve been itching to upgrade my Air 2 for awhile and have been really happy with the 11 inch iPP. I might get S5 next year. (I also have a 12.9 iPP second gen, which is my main work machine, and since it mostly just stays put, I didn’t feel the need to upgrade this year.)

iPad. The update for Apple Watch is minor given that the screen still turns off and is not always on. The jump from mini to an iPad is bigger I think.
