I'm currently in debate on getting an iPad or Android tablet. The price difference is significant, but if it's worth it I might go for the iPad. I want to buy it for 70% webbrowing and the rest for media consumption. Design does matter for me, that's why I'm not going for the normal iPad or iPad Air because I can't stand the bezels. Anyone who got them both (iPad OS and Android tablet OS) how is your experience? Split screen is very important, will Apple let you use that feature on most apps?

Yeah, most apps support that feature.
How are the iPad apps, can you actually say that 90% of them on the app store are optimized now (for the pro)? Or are there still a lot of apps which doesn't use the full screen potential of the tablet?

Web browsing and media consumption work on any iPad on sale today. Your choice to get the most expensive one will of course get you some more performance and a more modern design as you specified.
Split screen support depends on the app. Many games for example are not designed to be used that way but require to be run fullscreen.

Since you’re not sure, buy from a vendor with a good return policy and test the iPad yourself. Best success, enjoy the journey.

Along with this I’d also like to point out that as per your expectations - 90% of the apps on the AppStore - do not support split screen because most games require the full breadth of the screen to draw UI elements which can’t be moved around to support split screen and also most likely does not work well with the overall experience.

If you’re talking about apps used for other than gaming then by default it will be way less than 90% and out of those a lot don’t support split screen, so percentage wise it will be even more smaller. Having said that, most well known / used apps do support it.

For me in terms of multitasking the main thing I would want is to be able to do media consumption while doing something else. There’s some apps that do that well, allowing video playback in PiP so that another app can take the entire screen while you watch. Some don’t though, like the Youtube app, YoutubeTV, and Plex. It’s a mixed bag because these apps don’t do PiP but they will do split screen. I’m not a fan of giving up half of a screen for a video that will take a fraction of that screen space though.

Another area where I’d like better support is in chat apps. Most work fine (Teams, FB Messenger) but a couple of old ones that I use a lot don’t like Hangouts and Skype for Business.

As someone who loves Android very much (I even have a Galaxy s10 as my main phone), I have to admit the iPad blows everything else out of the water. It has:

- the best processor of all tablets, nothing comes close even in the premium segment
- the best or tied for the best screen
- the best battery life
- the best conversion dock (ie the magic keyboard with the trackpad)
- the best speakers with again nothing even remotely close
- the best or tied for the best camera
- apple pencil as one of the best tablet pencils on the market

and sure you can look at the surface pro line, but while they are great laptops, I found them pretty mediocre at being tablets. The iPad, despite all the issues in has due to iPad OS limitations, is really in a league of its own.

It’s been many years since I owned a Android tablet, I owned a Galaxy Tab10.1 back in 2011 and the iPad Pro 11 kind of reminds me of it in terms of its look at the front LOL, similar look but far smaller bezels.

Anyway something that typically frustrated me in Android was the lack of apps that are optimized for the tablet UI, that is certainly not an issue with iPad, most apps, games and websites seem to be well tailored for iPads.

I personally went fort the 2020 11” due to how much closer it is in size to my old iPad Air 2, while fitting a larger screen in a similar body.

Multitasking wise, I am happy but I can tell the 2020 iPad Pros pack a lot more in them, the 6GB RAM is not there for nothing, I feel like iOS 14 and 15 will truly unleash these beasts.

I agree. I think there are a lot of Android users who have 1 Apple device and that is the iPad, because they too see the device as unparalleled.

I switched from the TabS6 in February and the only thing I am really missing is Dex desktop mode. While the Tab S6 packs a lot and the pen integration is at a much deeper level compared to the iPad, the iPad excels is every aspect, from design, display and primarily APPS. Sophisticated photo and video editing on the Samsung is hard to find, cloud integration with iCloud and dedicated “Pro” apps made me never turning my S6 on again. The iPad Pro is just so much better. And now with the magic keyboard and the upcoming iOS14 pen improvements, there is very little left for the Samsung line of tablets.

Posting in the iPad forum might give you some biased answers :p but it really will depend on which OS you like better and if there is any ecosystem you’d prefer to be in. But I never liked using android personally, in the past I kept alternating between android and iPhones, but as iOS improved in its features, it sort of sealed the deal for me. My iPad Pro is what I like to use as my main device (yes, even over my phone).

I would recommend the iPad Pro for sure. It's such a quality device that will be a welcomed addition.

Just get the 11” iPad Pro, and stop wasting time. Whatever Android tablet you get won’t get more Than 1 OS Update. With Ipad Pro everything works. Have a pdf boom opens fine. Want to edit that pdf done works perfect. On Android good luck.
