When you buy a movie from the iTunes Store while using an iPad Pro 12.9", what resolution movie do you get? Certainly you don't get just plain HD?

(Sorry if this has been asking somewhere but I'm having trouble finding out via search.)

Some will allow you to STREAM 4K UHD resolution but you can only watch 1080P offline. I kinda wish they bump up the price and offer offline 4K but well.

Yeah but we'd rather have downscaled 4K to 2732px vs 1920px upscaled to 2732px. Also we'll hardly notice any compression artifacts with downscaled 4K.

As mentioned, it can play 4K videos but it's going to get downscaled (likely down from 3840*2160 to 2732*1536 for 16:9 on 12.9"). Currently, no iOS device has high enough resolution to actually display full 4K.

Still, as @macduke has said, better 4K downscaled than 1080p upscaled. Admittedly, for storage/space savings, I stick to 1080p for locally stored videos.

You get 720p/1080p/1080pHDR, iTunes only streams 4K to Apple TV 4K.
