Hello everyone.
I got a Ipad Pro 12.9 about a month ago and was wondering if this device will last me for at least two years.
I heard that ios 11 is coming up soon and was a little worried this Ipad Pro will start having lags with the update.

Do you think this device will be outdated pretty soon?

I mainly use this device for drawing and sketching.

Thx in advance.

Technically anything technology related is already dated by the time you purchase it. The iPad 12.9 Pro is already going on two years old. There is no guarantee how an update will ultimately affect your iPad. It could easily be supported for another two versions of iOS. Also, remember, iOS updates are to help the product become more efficient, not necessarily degrade it.

If you're primarily using iPad for sketching/drawing, I don't think the latest iOS update will take away from your experience . That said, the 12.9 iPad Pro should easily last another three years of support. (Of course this a guess.)

At some point of time it will. But with 4GB of RAM the 12.9" iPad Pro is very robust I think should be able to handle a couple of iOS updates pretty easily. So it will get outdated a couple of years down the line but not soon.

I bought mine the day it came out, so I've been using it a year and a half. I hope to get another two years of decent use out of them, then they are about 4 years old and I'm willing to buy a brand new magical device then. :D

You could return it and wait for a few weeks/months until something new comes out, or use it for another few years.
The 12.9 was one of the most overpowered devices ever sold when it came out, it still is a mighty beast of an ipad.

I bought mine last month knowing that a new model will be releasing this summer and the possibility of iOS 11.

You'll have nothing to worry about for a few years thanks to the great hardware that's already included.

I just got a 12.9" IPP too. From a performance standpoint I don't think it will have any problems with newer versions of iOS in the next two years. It's faster than my 2015 12" MacBook and I've never seen it lag or stutter in animations. The only feature I will be envious of is the tru tone display if updated 12.9" IPP gets it. I was listening to John Gruber's podcast and they were saying how great tru tone is. I don't think I would spend $300 to upgrade just for that however.

I have both iPP's and replicated the true tone with a triple home button press, it changes the colour to a bit more yellow.
Sometimes true tone is even annoying, when I have my finger in front of the sensors and it gets all cat urine yellow o_O

Over a year and a half later, the 12.9 iPad Pro remains the only iPad with 4GB RAM. While some of that additional RAM is needed for the higher resolution display, the cross-over point is about 3GB. Anything above that gives the 12.9 Pro an advantage over the 2GB 9.7 iPads.

IMO, RAM is the best indicator of longevity... based on that, the 12.9 Pro still has plenty of life remaining.

On a sidenote, I constantly see these Ludicrous complaints that the iPad 12.9 Pro is outdated, who would buy it, it's old technology, it doesn't work, etc. Even if it is going on two years old, the 12.9 Pro could easily run circles around the other tablets on the market and it still equally just as powerful as it was since day one. I wouldn't hesitate purchasing it.

I wouldn't buy an IPad Pro RIGHT NOW! The newer model is coming soon.

Soon? Soon could be next week or September through November. Even if someone wanted to purchase an iPad now, I wouldn't necessarily not advise it. It depends what someone needs the iPad for and how they plan on using it. Its soley dependent on the user, not the next unannounced iPad.

Since the latest rumors, i bet that new iPad Pros will arrive by next week. So why buy a 2 year old Device?

It's actually not two years old. Even if the new iPads were to launch next week, would that prohibit the 12.9 iPad Pro from being any less capable than what it is now because it's almost two years old? Again, I think it depends on what someone is using an iPad for versus age. Ram is a major factor to the life of An and the 12.9 Pro has 4GB over the other models, which have less.

Why would Apple release a new iPad less than 3 months after another, doesn’t make sense to a sales company, much more likely to be September onwards. Would still like to see what the new one has though ...

Still outdated in tech specs, 2 years is too long in the tech world

Apple released a low cost iPad . So, they can launch an new iPad Pro next week .

What is outdated about it?
And how is november 2015 to june 2017 two years?
[doublepost=1496330147][/doublepost]
Apple doesnt refresh because it is a year old, when they refresh there is new tech added new functionality, new design, but not like so many others because its the time of year again.
Look at the Mac Pro, how old where the previous macbooks pro??

There is a common belief that if there is any other iOS device that has a single feature that the 12.9 iPad Pro doesn't have (or is "better" than it) then it is "outdated".

As for 2 years. 2015-2017 = 2 years.

Point of clarification: I don't agree or believe this, but this is what many think.

I don't why, but you seem to think every statement you make on here is fact. I mean, please explain where you came up with this above logic about the budget iPad leading to a new Pro next week? I genuinely want to read why you believe Apple intentionally manufacturered the 2017 iPad leading to a new iPad during WWDC.

If you're correct, then great. But in other threads you seemingly Tell others why their wrong about their opinions and some of your beliefs to Me seem rather unbelievable about what path Apple is on.

That doesn't answer My question in the post you responded to though. Its been stated throughout these iPad threads that age isn't always a factor, please explain to me what the iPad 12.9 Pro cannot perform
or is limited to because it's almost 2 years old?

Seems to me you're justifying an age over performance. And you're not taking consideration what people actually use iPads for in some respects. So again I ask you, can you explain to me what the 12.9 Pro cannot task currently that most or some would need it to because you deem "Outdated."

Granted, it's not the most up-to-date iPad. But that doesn't explain How it performs and how it trumps any other tablet on the market in terms of power and multi-tasking.

I feel like the Ipad Pro 12.9 is more of a longevity model than the ipad 2 ever was.

One of my best purchases ever, and i got it 1.5yrs ago.

My predictions are usually right!!! I think Apple will launch an new iPad Pro very soon .. The current IPad Pro 12.9 is almost two years old . Time to update! Apple just launched this new IPad because the IPad Air 2 is 3 years old now , and doesn't make sense to keep an 3 year old product in the line up. Apple needs to bring an new IPad Pro this year.[/QUOTE]

But you stated Apple will release an iPad Pro next week in your previous post, now you're saying "This year."

Also, the iPad Air 2 is NOT in their lineup anymore (Except for refurbished). So how does that correlate reasoning why to an an iPad Pro releasing? The 2017 9.7 iPad replaced the Air 2.

This year can be next week , September, October don't know . Most problably next week .
